Is it just me, or does anyone else think that the audio on this remaster sounds better then the other remasters? I have them all, and yes, I understand that the production on Pauls Boutique wasn't that great and the PB needed to be remastered and all the most, or so most people claim, but I was listening to HN remaster this morning and I was blown away, it sounds so much fuller, is it me or am I crazy? I haven't changed any settings on my car stereo, the bass is much fuller, the mids and the highs sound great and so do the vocals, I'm no audiophile so maybe my excitement is making me hear things differently, but so far I think the HN remaster sounds the best out of all of them.

All of these remasters have me jonesin lately, on a side note, I'm just as big a Beatles fan as I am a Beastie fan and I picked up the stereo Remastered Box set of the beatles tunes and let me tell you, you Beatles fans out there, definitely worth getting it if you have the cash. Amazing, just like the Beastie remasters, the last few months musically have been great, my 2 favorite bands have remastered their albums.........

Now I wait to hear HSC...

I'm listening to disc 2 first but the audio on that one sounds great. Hello Nasty always sounded really good to me, but based on what you said I'm excited to hear it.

Maybe the masters where in a lot better condition?

I haven't looked at the wav files yet but I have fear that "remastered" just means "compressed all to hell" and the reason it sounds "better" in your car is because it's louder.

That was the one thing I was hoping to find out in the commentaries but it looks like the Beasties had very little, if anything, to do with the re-mastering, or if they did, they didn't mention it. If that's the case it wouldn't suprise me if capital just wanted a good reason to sell more stuff so they compressed all the records and called them "remastered."

Of course, this has absolutely no basis in fact at this point other than that's what a lot of record companies do when they "remaster" old albums. Sure, you can make out the sounds better in your car because everything is amped up but they don't sound nearly as good on a high quality stereo.

Good point, again, I'm not an audio head, it could be that it just sounds louder, but, than wouldn't the other remastered albums sounds ''louder'' too? I don't hear as a good a sound when I listen to the other remasters in my car, so if they were all solely compressed, wouldn't all the albums sound the same on my car stereo?

I have some understanding about compression of files and how that can make them appear louder. I will say that that I have not heard the cd on my home stereo, which is a lot better than my car stereo, tonight I'll find out.

precisely what I thought. I think since they began incorporating ProTools at this time the sessions were in much better working condition than that of physical tape, since tape doesn't always age so well.

I didn't really listen closely to it but I did notice that all of the remasters are more bassy...

Will their by any more remasters? (still 2 more albums)..

^ I don't know. I'm still trying to figure-out the 'five point' plan.

I've got a mixture of vinyl, remastered vinyl, cds, remastered cds, and mp3s, along with iTunes videos and dvd videos

back to topic:

A lot of it has to do with the quality of the stereo system being used and adding a good graphic equalizer can make a huge difference in any type of recording.

I don't think they'll need to "remaster" TT5B. If they do reissue it, it won't be for any other reason than adding the extra cuts.

Personally, I think that the HN cd sounded better on the original release. I'm interested to hear the vinyl version, though. The LP reissues have all clearly sounded superior to the originals.

I'm holding out for the "Some Old Bullshit" remaster!

Haha! I hope they do something with "Aglio E Olio" and add like 8-10 freshly recorded tracks (perhaps the songs they covered while playing as Quasar).

I think in general its just a cleaner sounding record. There's no crazy punk rock/distortion guitars/distortion mic's etc. etc. Check Your Head/Ill Communication are far more dirty than Hello Nasty, and Paul's Boutique (like Licensed To Ill) had a very low volume by modern day standards.

I don't think the remastered thing is a big deal, actually an old record with a remastered sticker on is not a very attractive product to me but i did get the ill communication remastered cause I just had it on cassette + the vinyls of the ep and I find these songs sound better on the record.
The sound is not clearer, it's just really boosted so much that if you pull the volume up you get distortion.
I might get the hello nasty remastered even if i have it on vinyl and cd because of the bonus unheard tracks!! and i am curious to hear it, i love this record and i was so captured by the sounds!

That's what they make a volume knob for.
