So the wife and I are at the train station to go to Flushing and we are involved in a conversation which distracted us from which direction we were going so we ended up swiping through the turnstiles for the manhattan bound train rather than the flushing bound train.

So we walk out and to the attendant and informed him of our mistake. He was on the phone taking with someone and I tell him politely that we accidentally swiped for the wrong direction.

He moved his head from the phone and said, "what?" really cocky like and then he rolled his eyes and shook his head as if I was bothering him.

I then asked what's with his attitude and he starts yelling, "I see people do this all day long! Why can't people pay attention!! Can't people learn to read!!"

He was going on and on and I'm just looking at him and saying, "wow, this is ridiculous, just wow" and my wife is oddly looking at him too.

So he swipes us through and continues throwing a fit.

I'm wondering- how hard of a job is it to sit at a booth and issue tickets and help people? Is it that hard that you have to be a complete asshole over something as simple as that? It's his job to deal with people who fuck up just like I did. As he says, he sees it all day long so I suppose it's part of his job.

Regardless, I'm going back and getting his name and making a complaint to MTA. He happens to work at the station that I frequent everyday because it's my neighborhood station.

I do not appreciate paying $80 per month and being treated like some dirtbag while using transportation. It's not like I always do this, in fact, this is the first time I have made this mistake.

I think I won't make a complaint. I think I'm going to keep bothering him in some way on a daily basis while I use that station.

this is why MASS transit is so frustrating. they are trying to move MASSES of people but as soon as an individual needs attention or customer service, the Power Trip begins.

It sounds like you killed him with kindness and he was immune to your powers.

Certified Dickhead.

Everytime they are assholes to me, I politely remind them of a few years ago when someone was enacting that scene from that movie when they sprayed gasoline in the booth and lit it up. Its funny to see their reaction

This is the thing. It's Sunnyside Queens. There's not masses of people. In fact, I have never seen the place busy and when I was there, I remember about 5-6 people and there was nobody in line but me.

I think he's upset that I disturbed him from his phone call. It must be nice to even be able to chat away while at work. I get fired if I'm even caught looking at my phone.

I will go back and get his name and make a complaint and make a big deal out of it being that he had no problems at all making a big deal out of me.

He also yelled "SWIPE YOUR CARD!!" to my wife through his nifty little amplified intercom.

I worked with piece of shit inmates for 2 years and I never even raised my voice at them like he did with me.

yep. I just called. They're taking care of the situation.

I also deal with people on a daily basis and my job is way more frustrating than his but I don't lose my cool with people and if I did, I'd expect for people to report me to my supervisor as well.

I gotta admit, I was surprised this thread wasn't about me.

dude's job is to sit in a booth and help people who have trouble with swiping their card without being a dick about it. what exactly did he think he'd be getting paid to do?

Yeah, exactly and MTA employees make decent wages followed by an impressive benefits package.

If I had his job sitting on my ass all day, I wouldn't mind if people were flinging shit on the window as long as it didn't touch me.

What really irks me the most is him yelling at my wife like he did. He had me pretty pissed off all day over that.

Yes they held up the city a few years ago to get that wage package, plus I'm pretty fucking sure cell phone/personal calls are in the the conduct and work code as a big NO. That's fucking bullshit, I've used MTA and usually as ignorant as I am they've been extremely helpful and believe me I'm ignorant when I'm in NYC. Hopefully it's an isolated case.
