Some of those failures in the skit are more "works in progress" (i.e. closing Guantanamo, getting out of Iraq), but it's pretty open-ended on whether those would even be followed through. Maybe he's done nothing BECAUSE the rabid right-wing would go into even more hysterics.

I agree with the premise of the skit, but I don't find it funny. I don't know what the deal is. It felt so flat. That guy is just awful. I suppose that no one does a good Obama?
The Daily Show or Bill Mahr could do the same material and it would be funny.

SNL is at a supreme disadvantage because Fred Armison doesn't do a good job impersonating Obama. Obama is hard to get right for comedians since Bush and Clinton were easy caricatures to get down. SNL would have been better off if McCain won since Darrell Hammond did a kick-ass job as him.

I don't know what makes a good impersonation. It's a big mystery. You don't have to look like the guy. Chevy Chase looked nothing like Ford but it was kind of funny. Dana Carvey wasn't really like Bush, but he made you think that he was. And that's saying a lot because I generally hated Carvey.

I kind of think it makes that much funnier that the impression is so off.
Also, I was interested in who was going to be the first to actually take this seriously enough to feel the need to defend Obama's record.
Way to go Droppin' Pants.

What did I defend? It's despicable, frankly, that he hasn't followed through on any of those issues SNL brought up. SNL may or may not be proven wrong in the near future with some of them (which, I guess, is SNL's motive for making that skit).
Only RobMoney would guffaw at me bringing up a Fact Check site on Obama's record (which does not defend or attack him, but state what he has done, what he has not done, and what is a work in progress). Maybe next time I'll post something from the Drudge Report.

You're clearly wound too tight.

That's funny. Last I checked, you did not think very much of satire:
I happen to find people who let their opinions on politics to be shaped by satirists to be morons.

Yup, and none of us hated FOX News before we saw the Daily Show, right?

You've tried this conceit before, but it just doesn't work. Satire/comedy shows like SNL, Stewart, Colbert, Maher, etc. do not shape opinions. They reinforce and confirm opinions. At least try something new instead of repeating the same talking points.

if any of you homo's touch my stuff....
anyway, last year Armisen did a better job as Obama stressing his cadence....last nite it was just Armisen in a suit....

I agree. Armisen used to do a better impression of Obama, his abrupt stops in speech and his murmured "uhhs" under his breath and all that. I was surprised to see all of that gone. I wonder if they'd think of hiring another Obama? I thought they were talking about hiring this guy. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qt_TnQqkVyk)

I actually thought it was pretty good.
I thought the way he was playing Obama as this ultra-casual, unpresidential punk was spot on.

Obama's caricature by that guy was weak. The weakest of all the Presidents they've parodied. The writing was OK, the whole show sucked really. The weekend update with that other dude, he's not too good. The Arnold parody was kinda funny. I'm always amazed at how easily SNL becomes a trainwreck.
But back to the Opening skit, I get it "the I haven't done jack" premise, at one point I thought it was going to get funny when they went towards the beer with a cop and a professor part... but then it just fizzled.
Why don't they let that Black dude do Obama? I thought his Charles Barkley looked more like Obama than the opening skit dude.

I agree, it's the spirit not the look. You have to embody that timing, the sentences that always encapsulate the full spectrum of all ideas and the calmness.. quick grin then the slight head tilt Obama uses to listen.

As pointless as fact checking an Onion story.
I heard that Gerald Ford didn't fall nearly as often as Chevy Chase portayed.
It's a sad statement when a supposedly major news organization puts one of it's top people on on a piece to defend the president against an SNL skit.

Yeah, I have to agree with you on this one. No wonder the Daily Show gets so much mileage out of CNN's ridiculous reporting. It's almost as bad as Fox. Not quite, but it's getting there.
What a fucking ridiculous state of affairs.
Plus the skit wasn't funny and it's painful to watch that bad imitation again.

Blasphemy.
Porcelain Fountains (http://www.nbc.com/saturday-night-live/video/clips/porcelain-fountains/1163266/) & Papa John Phillips (http://www.nbc.com/saturday-night-live/video/clips/family-feud/1163283/) were stone classics.
Also, this made the entire hour and a half worthwhile:

That show, it was sucky and not funny. Needs more Will Forte (http://www.hulu.com/watch/75518/late-night-with-jimmy-fallon-will-fortes-late-night-theme-song).

CNN just announced they did some fact checking of songs today...
Turns out no one ever really called Steve Miller "Maurice".
Also, Mick Jagger was in fact frequently satisfied.

lol, isn't that the truth. Anderson Cooper looked so ridiculous between Patrick Swayze film clips a few weeks ago, trying to look sad, concerned at yet another 3 hours of National Celebrity loss.
How embarrassing for all of us involved.

Thanks for putting up the link, Stewart is so damn good.
Good skewering of John King's no questions after Senator Kyls insane hundreds of billions of dollars quotes.
Kings wimpy reply is "we'll talk more about this as it reaches the floor we're out of time on this day"
Out of time on this day? Your show is four fucking hours long!!!!
I feel like this everyday, I have no patience for the ignorance of these news shows. I'm barely stomaching the NYtimes reports on healthcare, if it wasn't for the readers responses I wouldn't even bother. Even in the NYTimes response section all of the ads are froom Pharma corps.
We as citizens have to become more active on calling out this shill reporting. The richest people on earth have purchased the free press. It's fucking crazy.
