View Full Version : things to do with ramen?
budgetary issues have forced me to start eating ramen noodles again and i'm wondering if there are cheap, easy ways for me to use the noodles to make a better, less sodium infused meal? like i throw away the flavor packet, boil the noodles and add.....what?
cheap and easy are the key words here. easy most of all. anything more complicated than chopping and steaming and i'm out (even steaming is a little above my head honestly)

My personal favorite.
"Cheap Fire Ass recipe"
2 packages of Ramen ( Chicken )
Boil Noodles ( as soon as they start to break up )
Add 2 Eggs into the water and stir. ( sounds weird I know, but if you haven't tried it, your missing out)!
Then quickly add in ONLY 1/2 packet of the Chicken seasoning.
Stir.
Then I add 3 packets of FIRE sauce free from your local Taco Bell.
Stir again and consume.
Or
Cheapest and fastest way we have learned to consume Ramen is the "Hippie Chips" method.
Get a sandwich bag.
Drop 1 package of Ramen into bag.
Smash it ( but not to much ) you wanna have chunks.
Drop in 1/2 package of seasoning and shake bag to get good coating on "chips"
Open and eat. (works best when completely rounded)..

egg is good...so is bok choy and sesame...or peanut bits...fire it with sriracha or chilli flake...my noodles are more vietnamese/thai than japanese...

I know it’s not budget specific friendly but Chinese BBQ pork… (http://www.royalbaconsociety.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/10/chinese-bbq-pork.jpg)minced up makes it pretty damned fine...

Also sometimes you can get a pretty good deal on those bags of frozen little shrimps...they go a long way...
Add the noodles to soup. Any soup I suppose.

thanks for the suggestions everyone - the ones i like the most are the ones that avoid the flavor packet entirely because that shit is loaded with MSG and i want to live past 50 (though I don't know why yet)
i also want to avoid meat - not because i don't like meat (i do!) but because meat takes a while to prepare. you have to get a separate piece of cookware, you have to cook it, you have to clean up, and really i just want to boil the noodles, dump something on it that gives me less than 80% of my RDA of sodium and eat
like i'm looking at the "parmesan ramen" recipe from bionic's second link which is basically cook, drain, and sprinkle parmesan cheese, that's the kind of thing i'm looking for. cardboard tubes of parmesan cheese don't have MSG right?

that does sound good, yeah. i wouldn't use the whole onion though, and i'm not sure how to store it. how long do those last after you cut them?
onions? a while (pronounced qqqqquuuuhile). Ziploc baay, not air in bag,,,,
