View Full Version : Detroit, Michigan...Liberal Paradise?

About 5 years ago I had pneumonia for a week which laid me out. I had zero energy but I was able to mess around on my iBook. I've always been interested in urban exploration and while following links on the subject discovered the world of Detroit, MI. Its an urban exploration paradise due to all the abandoned buildings, etc. (I've only been to Detroit once, for a 1 hour flight layover). Since that time I've followed the happenings in Detroit through such websites as detroityes.com, etc.

In many ways, Detroit would also appear to be a Taj Mahal of liberalism. Always run by Democrats. Heavily unionized. High taxes. Huge minority population as a result of 1960s white flight. Yet look at the most recent events in Detroit this week from the handing out of stimulus funds:

I can not for the life of me understand why things are so negative and bad in Detroit. Unions run things, democrats run things, minorities are in control of a city in which minorities are actually the majority. Heavy handed govt body. It should be a paradise according to liberal logic...yet in reality its a cesspool.

Reading these stories reminds me of a joke from the Jimmy Carter days...
Why can't you take a picture at the Welfare Office? Because when you say cheese they all get in a single line..:D

I just don't get why things are so bad in Iran. Conservatives run things, the army runs things, religion permeates public life and discourse, morality is legislated. It should be a paradise according to conservative logic. But it's a cesspool.
