Far from a "genius" of any sort. People can stop with that bullshit already.
A lot of nice hooks, a couple of good verses, one decent solo album, 45 kids, and 1,000,000 crack rocks later, you're left with an entertaining/batshitinsane dude who had little regard for manners or hygiene. He can't even take credit for starting the awards show acceptance speech bumrush trend, since Flavor Flav did that first.
His greatest contribution to hip hop was teaching GZA how to rap. So thanks for that.

ODB was a smart man...it's a shame that all the other negative elements surronding him dampen that glow. I would say he was on as high (*no pun intended) level as RZA per say in SOME aspects. Also, ODB was a great rapper (witty lines, clever hooks, very unique flow/delievery, verstile as seen on his debut). His contribution to hip-hop was greater than just teaching GZA how to rap. And even if that's his biggest contribution to father the style, per say, of one of the better MC's in the Wu is something. Great rapper who had SOME genuis moments. I don't see the need to tell him "fuck off". I agree with you b i o n i c(y)

ODB was a legend in my book in that he managed to accomplish being all of the above. Though he weighed heavy on the Insane side of the scales.
He was a loose cannon and that's always fun to watch because you never know where their going to go with.
He was my favorite of the WU Crew.
When I saw WTC in Atl opening up for RATM they had to shut the lights and mic on him because he went on a tirade of craziness when their set ended that can only be matched by some of the threads I've created over the years.
