I've never understand the rush to be the first one on a plane. United now has a Premire service you can pay for by flight to "bypass" the line and get right on. But then there is usually a line on the bridge and in the plane. Then you get to sit and wait until the last person is on anyway. Whats so special about airline seats? Can't be because you want to listen to the music stations ASAP. Well, the kid channels usually rock pretty hard.
I also like the instant rush to release your seatbelt right before the light goes off, stand up and grab all of your stuff out of the overhead. YOU WIN! Most people go row by row anyway. If you have a connecting flight, I can dig wanting to hurry but still, they have to open the plane.

Also:
"We are now boarding are executive gold, executive silver, Premire class, Royal level, 1st class, Business class, Platinum club, etc..." How many preboard groups do airlines need and when does it get to much? I watched 1/2 the plane line up when that was called out.

I never understood this either. I was on a flight this summer and this guy had like 20 minutes to get to his connection. EVERYONE stood up to get their stuff in the overhead compartments and wouldn't let him pass. Rude.
I guess the rush to get on the plane first would be important if you were flying Southwest. I don't think they have assigned seating.

I tend to board ASAP when I'm in first class because they hang up my coat and give me a cocktail.
When I fly coach, I think they should board people with window seats first. I don't understand why anyone would rush to get to their aisle seat in coach. You just get bumped by people and have to get up to let the person with the window seat in.
I suspect that people want to get on early so they can monopolize the overhead compartments.

two words... overhead. storage.
I was always of this school of thought til i became a 'check no baggage' person. I don't monopolize what so ever. Simply have my one roller bag that goes up top wheels first! But I was a platinum AA member and could board 1st and what not for my coach seat but chilled to get on last... and lo and behold there was NO room for my roller bag and then another time there was one spot for my roller bag wayyyyyy behind my seat so i was super mega last off the plane and such. Never again, now I'm throwin elbows to get on there asap. (!)

I'm never getting on a plane ever again.I've flown a lot of times and now I just don't want to get on another one.If I ever want to travel anywhere again I'll get a boat because it's more fun I think.

Jenny has a point. When I travel for work and fly coach, I tend to get on early because I have to bring everything that I will absolutely need and can't risk losing. That means that I wear a suit on the plane and have to put a briefcase full of papers in the overhead bin, because my laptop goes under the seat. It's not about being a hog it's about getting my fair share of space.
I wish they would crack down on people with too much carry on luggage.

If you have to turn your luggage sideways in the overhead compartment, its too big. I wish they would crack down as well. And a hat shouldn't be allowed to take up the room that a bag would.
And really? You can't get macadamia nuts where you live so you have to buy a huge box to lug on the plane? A huge box of cigs or booze because you are saving $5?

I hate this. Especially since half the time the plane hasn't even stopped attempting to park yet. The people that do this just end up standing in the aisle for ages looking like tools, trying not to make it look like they want to sit back down again while leaning on the side of the seats nonchalantly.

the overhead storage has gotten even worse now that airlines charge to check your bags. A friend of mine was forced to check her small bag when they ran out of storage....then the airline lost her bag so she went 24 hours with no luggage.
Now you can choose your seat on planes, I check out the procedures of flights and choose the one closest that gets off first. Last on, first off is my rule. I never carry much with me so never had a problem with space as it'll always fit under the seat.
People who stand trying to find their twentieth plastic bag holding up the damn queue to get off I really hate.
