By keeping things clean - a place for everything is my motto.
I let them live with me in a house I part own while its for sale for really cheap rent on the promise they keep things tidy so I can keep it attractive enough for people to want to buy it still - they don't and I am forever creating space for them to fill it. Now they don't want me touching their stuff, I think they've really forgotten whose house this is.

This is stuff they leave about not in their room but in communal spaces btw, I'd hate to check how messy their room is. They are nice people so I can't kick them out but I am living alone next time and in hindsight I shouldn't of offered them a room. I am kinda hoping I make it hard enough for them to live in a clean house that they'll move out and I can be alone (y)
