Who likes to have dessert after a meal every day? When you were growing up, did you have dessert every night?
When I was growing up, dessert was a special occasion. We could have snacks sometimes, but after dinner it wasn't a regular event to have something sweet.
Now I've gotten into the habit of having dessert after dinner every day. And it feels so normal and natural. I just don't feel satisfied until I've cleansed my palate with something sweet.

no chance with two kids eating me wallet. dessert is a friday night or sunday afternoon thing only now.
When I was growing up (kinda poor) so we didn't really get to have desserts so a special occasion only event. Now, I don't often buy sweet stuff but I've been finding after lunch at work I'm fancying something so I end up walking to the shops and buying a chocolate bar or something and then I feel sick cus I eat it all.
Problem is with me, I don't fancy it unless I have it in so then I end eating too much. All or nothing!

It wasn't a matter of course growing up, we got doughnuts on Sunday morning and the occasional candy bar at the grocery store. When I first left home I indulged a lot but eventually lost the craving for it, I'm not sure how.
Now I'm getting back into it and I've started to crave a goodie after dinner every day. So I have to not have it in the house too much. Of course this weekend I baked chocolate chip cookies and it ended up being a HUGE batch so it's hard as fuck not to tuck into like 4 or 5 cookies a day.

We used to have ice cream a lot after dinner when I was growing up. Depends on my mood now. If I'm out I always want dessert...especially if they have tiramisu on the menu.

as a kid, a real dessert was something special. mom would usually push healthier alternatives on us if we wanted snacks and such.
now that i'm by myself, i tend to be a little more easy on the healthy snack part. although i think it mostly depends on what i eat for dinner and how late. there are some meals that just fill me up and i never feel that grumble for a late night snack. i sort of like those nights best.

I actually prefer a little more dinner than dessert...we usually only do it when company's over...then she makes insane tiramisu or bakes a pie from scratch...she likes dessert when we dine out,I like coffee and brandy or cognac...when I'm traveling though I do like to try regional sweet stuff...

I used have trifles growing up.
now I realise that they spoil the meal.I mean,I couldn't imagine having a nandos chicken feast and then some stupid cake take all the chicken taste away

I get a craving for something every other day if not a few days in between.
Usually I want ice cream or frozen yogurt. I really love soft serve.

I'm already sweet enough.
i think we had dessert every day growing up. i don't really do it now that i'm on my own, partially because it's cheaper but also because i don't really like sweet stuff that much. i mean i like it well enough, but i don't crave it or anything, i like normal food better.
also, sometimes cake gives me diarrhea. not always. maybe less than half the time. i don't know why it does it, and i haven't been able to pin it down to a specific type of cake or anything, but it definitely is cake. it makes birthday parties very stressful because you can't very well say "oh no thank you, cake gives me the runs about forty percent of the time" because you sound like a gross nerd

When we were little, it was fruit for dessert Monday to Friday and on Saturday evening we'd either get some Arctic roll, or a Supermousse or a couple of scoops of icecream in a mug. Sunday, maybe some apple pie or something like that.
I keep a tub of some variety of icecream at home but that's it - am not a pudding person really. Although I might make a rhubarb crumble this weekend using rhubarb from my garden. Woo hoo!

It's amazing how quickly kids catch on to how yogurt isn't really dessert.

i vaguely remember sometimes making cookies or rice krispie treats when i was little. my dad is a big ice cream fan so the freezer is usually stocked with ice cream. in my house you dont put ice cream in sissy bowls. you just eat from the box.
we didnt have a lot of normal family dinners though, a lot of eating out, a lot of "find your own" nights where everyone was responsible for feeding themselves. but i dont think we often had dessert. if we were having a real home cooked meal there were usually biscuits (as in US souther style bread biscuits, not cookies) served with the meal. i would usually have one cheese filled and one with jam so that was kind of like a dessert. i mostly snack on sweets at random times though, not right after dinner.

I'm pretty sure we had dessert most days in high school...I can't remember before that. it was always low fat stuff though, like a handful of snackwell's mini chocolate chip cookies and a glass of skim milk, or frozen yogurt.
in the summer, I'd go for walks around the neighborhood with the parents and we'd go to a donut shop everyday for fat free columbo frozen yogurt.
oddly enough, the fat free lifestyle my mom forced on everyone made us fatter. all that sugar!
I personally only eat desserty things a couple times a week because I try to avoid sugar. but I did get some bread pudding today, because of this thread. hmph!
