I feel your pain. I know working out in the morning is so much more effective but I always feel like I am going to be sick if I work out before 10am. I just can't do it. 2pm is my favorite time.

ive never tried working out in the morning before, but i wouldnt have been much better off later in the day. i am super duper incredibly out of shape. hopefully i can keep at this.
I run in the dark through the woods and a little off track because I don't want people to see me but it does make for a better route to.

Did you eat or drink anything before the workout? Working out in the morning is hard, but I've heard that it does get easier as your body gets used to it. I have done it for periods of time, but even when I did it regularly I never felt that I had as much energy in the morning as when I tried the same exercises in the evenings. I also thought it made a big difference if I ate a granola bar first and had some water. Why did you decide to start in the mornings? I probably don't know much about good exercise techniques anyway.
I prefer the mornings as I feel good rest of the day - all I take on is some water before I go out. By the evening I'm pretty much fed up day to do anything else. And I am a morning person, I think that is a key - just exercise when you feel you'll most likely do it as your bound to do it then rather than forcing some other time and hating it.

I work night shift so I workout at different times everyday. Sometimes it could be morning, other times late afternoon.
Your body needs to get used to it. Just make sure to eat something before you go. You know everyday will get easier. Just don't push yourself too hard. I think today was a good start! (y)

yeah, keep at it! when I started working out last january, I was huffing and puffing and in a lot of pain. but I just kept at it, and seriously like a week later I was over the hump and actually looking forward to working out.
you'd be surprised at how quickly your body adapts.

The first couple of weeks are always tough. The best thing to remember about other people in the gym is that at one point, they were all where you are now. Even though it may feel like they are pitying you... most of them probably are not because they have been in your shoes before! Keep at it!

thanks for the encouragement guys
i started working out over the sumer and was doing a really good job of staying consistent, then school started back and various other obligations and i sorta just lost my drive and gained back a bunch of flab. this was my first attempt at strenuous physical activity in a few months. i decided to try the morning thing because a friend reccomended it to me. i was telling him how i was always tired and how in the past few weeks ive been sleeping way too much, like 10-12 hrs a day, and i was about to go for a run at like 11 last night and he told me to wait and do it in the morning and id have more energy/feel better/etc.
im really not a morning person at all so im probably not going to stick with going mornings, but if i can get out and move around any time of the day it will be fantastic.

don't worry about that. i think that 99.9% of people who work out will admire someone who's just starting out and not very good but is clearly making the effort. everyone sucks when they first start, so nobody's pitying you for sucking, they're admiring you for starting. and if you really suck and are doing something wrong, someone might even offer to help you out.
why eat beforehand? I don't and prefer not to but I eat when I get back, just curious if there is a biological reason for it.

LOL @ 1.4 miles in 20 minutes. Even the fattest guy I know runs 1.5 miles in 15 minutes and that's fucking slow. I run it in under 9 minutes. I'd bet that I'm probably one of the best runners on the board, top 3 for sure.

I don't know of a biological reason for it. Finding what works, everyone's different. I only prefer to eat first if I do cardio in the morning.
Helvete why are you being a dick? She just started and she said she walked most of it.

Okay, I was harsh. It's easy for me to say when I pretty much get paid to be fit. When I first started running I was pretty damn slow and walked quite a bit even on a short distance like 1.5 miles. It's unrealistic for me to think that people who have quite inactive jobs would find running as easy as me.
Sorry, Rach. Keep on going and you'll be surprised at how much you improve in a short time.
i guess you would be the .1%
Of regulars, not zero or 1 post wonders. Maybe I should have specified.

9 minute miles are slow as hell.
if your top 3 on the board there is a big gap between myself the number two and yourself.

I felt nauseated and almost puked all my water once at the gym. My trainer had said it was because I was working my muscles so much and my blood sugar dropped.

i think he meant a 9 minute mile and a half. and i wouldn't call a 9 minute mile "slow has hell". obviously you aren't going to be winning any races but if you're just running for health or fun, 9 minutes is a respectable pace i think. i was stuck at 9 minutes for a long while, and i still slip into it towards the end of longer runs
re: eating first - this is purely anecdotal, i have no scientific commentary or anything but i used to run first thing in the morning before eating and i was pretty bad, i could barely get through 2 miles without having to stop and walk. then one day i ran later in the day, after breakfast and coffee and water and i did 3 miles no problem. i don't know if it's just coincidence, maybe i just suddenly got in better shape, but the change was drastic, i had much more energy.

I felt nauseated and almost puked all my water once at the gym. My trainer had said it was because I was working my muscles so much and my blood sugar dropped.
this is related to why i walked so long at the end. i tend to get nauseous/lightheaded really easy from working out. ive been told the same thing about my blood sugar. i can go and go and go and feel alright but if i stop suddenly i have to fight to stay conscious and not puke everywhere. i started to feel nauseous early on so i walked a fair bit at the end to try to prevent that from happening. ive really only had problems when ive worked hard and stopped quickly.
if its your bloodsugar, why not eat beforehand, you may ask. the answer is cramps, and id rather puke up water than milk and cereal if it comes down to it. plus i never like eating when i very first wake up.
there were some people with a table set up on the sidewalk today registering people for a 5k thats on sunday and i was like :(
running a 5k might still be a good idea, even if you can't run the distance yet. you can always walk, loads of people do (assuming it's a fun run type thing and less of a competitive event thing).
also if you're getting cramps, try waiting longer between eating/hydrating and working out. i like to wait two hours, though depending on your schedule it could be hard to work that out.

THE AVERAGE MAN CAN RUN A MILE IN 10 MINUTES
people be gettin' cocky in hurrr
Everyone considers themselves to be above average so has that been factored into the average to bring the threshold of average up to the above average level
