View Full Version : A challenge for you consumers...

I’m gonna try and not spend or refrain from being a consumer for a few day’s…see how long I can make it…I’m thinking til at least the weekend...it’s occurred to me that I pretty much buck out everyday…and a lot of it is frill purchasing…convenience stores, takeout,DVD’s,tobacco, spontaneous alcohol purchases, etc, etc…how long have you managed to buy nothing?...I have everything I should need, grocery’s,wine, tobacco, books, movies, the car has gas and my bills are paid,so I’m trying to be really conscious and see if it takes to me…are you a daily spender or do you have some frugal in you?

The big idea… (http://www.ecoplan.org/ibnd/ib_index.htm)

I love spontaneous alcohol purchases, they are always so much better than pre-meditated ones. (y)

Oh and I suck with money. I recently spent £1300 in 2 weeks on pretty much nothing.

sure...but that's how I end up with this (http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x265/mcmoot/crystalhead.jpg) or this (http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x265/mcmoot/tommy_guns_tequila.jpg) when all I went in for was a box of beer...

I'm excellent with money - but to a point I'll over analyse the every penny.

But I'm not tight, I like to spend money on people but when it comes to paying for domestic necessities etc I can't see why I should pay more than the cheapest generally unless I have some moral issues with the company etc (like I'll always buy fairtrade chocolate & coffee and organic milk etc).

But I do like my toys. I have two laptops, one desktop, PS3 and all sorts of things I use for my entertainment and right now I am looking at buying a smartphone but on the other hand, for example I see the TV License as a complete waste of money so I don't watch TV. I also generally only drink single malts so spending around £30 on a bottle of whisky is average for me - when I know I could buy a £10 bottle of grants.

People always come to me for money advice and I'll happily give it, I hate seeing people waste money for the sake of. And I often explain to them that I could give the equivalent of £2k pay rise a year by doing some simple things without lowering their standard of living. I wish there was some money to be made out of this but charging people for a service that is aiming to save them money seems kinda wrong. And the people who need that sort of service aren't gonna start paying for it, hmmmmmms.

I have a theory that Brit's in general may be a bit more tight fisted or thrifty than most...I attribute this to be the after effect/trickle down result of post war rationing and the impact those practices may have had upon your elders...

I would more argue a different cultures on how we spend our money. Although we are your closest cousins so to speak, we are a more socialist society while america is more capitalist. There are good and bad points about both (like we really fucking need a constitution and america really fucking needs healthcare) and I honestly believe that both countries could make the ideal place if they took a leaf or two off each others tree (or basically Germany with a sense of humour).

I try to spend $10 or less a day beyond needed purchases.

been spending too much money though lately on eating out. I brought my lunch today, but spent $4 on chips and beverages. :/

I take my own lunch to work but sometimes have a can of blackcurrant Vimto from the drinks machine which is always a bad idea as it gives me bellyache but at the time of drinking I don't remember this fact as the taste is great.

I think coffee is gonna be the biggest hiccup in this experiment...because the coffee at work is bitter and nasty...but it would add a 30 $pot to the balance over the course of a week...but I enjoy the ritual of stopping on my way in...

I think it's still about being conscious of impulse purchase and resisting unnecessary consumption...having said there is no stopping BBMB members minds from wandering where they will go…

This wouldn't really be a challenge because I am a responsible adult when it comes to money and I don't buy a bunch of shit I don't need.
