View Full Version : What's the most disturbing thing about Miley Cyrus' career/life?

I mean, moving past the whole Vanity Fair debacle, the cellphone pictures, and the overall poor parental supervision. What's currently the most f'ed up thing about this girl's life?

By now, I'm sure most of us have seen this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M11SvDtPBhA), which alone warrants at least 4 or 5 WTFs, including the stupidest lyrics ever (I'm noddin' my head like yeah, movin my hips like yeah!), an overt YEEAAAAAH AMERICA theme, and a video seemingly targeting teenage girls and pedophiles in equal measures.

Is it the fact that Hugh Hefner has already expressed an interest in her posing for his magazine when she's NO LONGER SIXTEEN? The Britney parallels? The fact that at least one of you is wondering what the big deal is? Dunno. Just curious. My daughter's 4 and a half now; maybe I'm just upset that she lives in a world where we can freely exploit children as sex objects for commerce and I'm taking this all out on Miley and her dad/pimp/handler for no reason.

Sorry Billy Ray and Destiny Hope!

Love, mickill

the most disturbing thing is her parents letting it/encouraging it all to happen.

I think the most disturbing thing about her public image is that it was all based on the premise that she doesn't have such a false image. She was supposed to have the best of both worlds, which meant that she was just a normal country girl at heart, not some diva. Even dumb country Britney fully admitted that her public image was for show and money. Miley Cyrus was always aimed at a younger audience. Hannah Montana was supposed to show how superstar life didn't change who the superstar really was off stage. She was supposed to be the pop star whose concerts dad's could take their daughters to. So if girls are supposed to look to Miley as the wholesome alternative to sassy little divas like JoJo, what does it mean when the wholesome standards get sluttier? Does that mean that wholesome country girls are supposed to pole dance? Is she saying that your public behavior doesn't matter because it's just to make money and it doesn't reflect on who you really are, or what your morals are? How shallow is that message?

Also, how can a teenage girl be expected to shoulder the responsibilities of thousands of other girls' self esteem while also making a ton of cash in a competitive, over-sexed industry?

i hate the fact that the use of autotune is so obvious in that song, but like, its not obvious on purpose, they just did a really shitty job with the whole thing

if i had a body like that i wouldnt want to put clothes on either.

Good point. The whole marketing angle was really pretty slick. Seemed like the whole scheme was unfolding right before everybody's eyes like some not-so-elaborate grift. Yet, nothing stopped it from succeeding.

That JoJo was pretty sassy.

They actually used autotune for it's correct purpose, since it was originally conceived as a way to get people on pitch when they really weren't. It's been around since the late 90s. Britney used it tons, even back during the Baby One More Time days.

But you're not 16, so that's not really disturbing.

i know thats what it was used for, its just the fact that you can actually hear that it was being used. if you're using it for pitch correction it should just sound like they're a really good singer. i dunno, it irks me.

For the record: I was in no way defending their blatant use of autotune, nor the song in any shape or form. To even appreciate this song you have to either be a child or just a plain idiot.

I think that Miley has an interesting voice and has worked with pretty good pop writers in the past to produce slick and tolerable pop songs. even that USA song is decent as far as shitty pop songs go, but clearly ultimately produced to hypnotize tweenagers and idiots into spending money.

I think Hannah Montana the show is hilarious (or it was, I only saw reruns of the first season I think), but Miley Cyrus the person sucks. the God stuff just makes it all even worse. I guess she can shake an shimmy her lady humps all over the t.v. if she wants, as long as she goes to church on sunday.

Dont forget that Elvis swayed his hips, the Beatles had long hair cuts, rock'n'roll was the devils music, Led Zepplin hit a girl with a fish, and hair bands in the 80s wore makeup like girls.

Her shorts are short. But are they worse than if she was wearing a bathing suit at the beach and having pictures taken of her?

Is dancing slutty or sensual or niether? I didn't see her take her clothes off so is it really a stripper pole? The same pole that women of all ages use for exercise classes or to feel more like a woman?

The only thing I can't stand is her manish like voice and the fact that the hold music at work has her playing 90 percent of the time.

What about the disturbing double standard that comes to mind when you think about how taboo it is for teenaged girls to be sexualized while it's just supposed to be a fun cougartown joke to suggest that older women are seeing young teenaged guys as sexual?

Echewta

And isn't it in your teens when you start to explore your sexuality, even if it doesn't necessarily mean having sex?

And isn't it in your teens when you start to explore your sexuality, even if it doesn't necessarily mean having sex?

While I'm sure no one put a gun to her head, her being free to start to "explore her sexuality" doesn't really nullify the fact that adults are the ones conceiving these videos, producing her elaborate live performances, and welcoming her to pose for Playboy, not other tweens.

Her shorts are short. But are they worse than if she was wearing a bathing suit at the beach and having pictures taken of her?

Are you suggesting that it's okay to take pictures of teenagers or children that you don't know at the beach in their bathing suits, just because they're out there in public?

And Elvis was 20 by the time he was in the public eye.

Please, I'm not saying its right nor do I want to go around taking pictures of 16 year olds at a drive in or the beach. I'm just wondering and making discussion.

I took down my Miley posters a year ago anyway.

First, I agree with Paul Jones when it comes to her dad's hair.

Second, unfortunately kids are growing up much faster these days. A 12-year-old kid looks and sounds like a 16-year-old kid of the 90's. I'm not saying her parents don't have a huge part on this too, but...that's how it is nowadays. We are used to watch videoclips like this played by teens everyday. So sad.(n)

I really didn't think there was anything wrong with the vanity fair photo shoot, but come on, she danced on a pole and we're supposed to ignore any reference to strippers just because she kept her clothes on? Women who use a stripper pole for exercise aren't usually trying to express their sexuality on a stage in order to sell things to children who idolize them.

I would like to say that this is nothing too new guys, kids have always been trying to be sexy. or for a long time at least. when I was in 2nd grade, I pretended to be a stripper sometimes, because of movies I saw or something. and we had Madonna, and Samantha Fox, and movie posters at the video store with boobies and all kinds of stuff on them.

it's wrong to capitalize on that though, for sure. but it could be worse...or something. I don't know, I forgot my point, I'm tired!

edit: I remember my point! I was going to say the age of the icon doesn't really matter, kids are attracted to sexy stuff sometimes. if you're 10, a 16 year old seems like a 25 year old.

yes and no.. madonna and samantha fox weren't like 12 years old when they were famous. hanna bandana was a little kid when she started

still though, who cares.. the weirdest thing about that chick is she looks like a miniature 45 year old woman to me

Nuzzolese

When I was a kid, some of my friends said they wanted to be strippers, because I guess they thought they were glamorous and didn't have to work very hard.

I know, I know, we have to accept the changing times and it could be worse. There's no point getting all worked up over public stuff. All I can do is avoid having a baby daughter unless I really want to raise her well. All I can do, I guess, is if I get pregnant I can eat a cake baked with the placenta from some other woman's baby boy. Then my baby will be a boy too.

You're not into 45 year olds? Wow, you're really showing your age now. It's hot for YOUNG men to like 45 year-olds or year-olds thereabouts like Demi and Courtney.

That's almost disparaging towards deaf people. Like in a "haha you can't hear and it makes no difference if a chick sings this song and I'm a dude dancing like a douche here because you're deaf anyhow" kind of way.
