Did your download come out alright? All of my tracks are at 128kbps and sped up Alvin and the Chipmunks style. I could slow down them down, or use rodie's which are at 320kbps but those are in mono. I could just copy the track and mix it in stereo, but that wouldn't really be a stereo recording (help from Brother McDuff please).
I slowed down LMCA Vs Da Funk by 33% and removed the annoying glitch at the start of the track, and compared it to the 320kbps version but the 128kbps version still sounds better, it has less background (transfer?) noise and the audio of the crowd is left out.

Whoever edited the original ID3 tags put the actual track length in. The ratio of track length of the actual recording to the track length in the ID3 tags for all of the tracks I have checked is 2/3. So I'm just using audacity to change the speed by 33% (and removing the annoying garbled noise at the beginning of each track and exporting them as 320kbps). I don't think you can improve the original sound quality by exporting them at a higher sampling rate, but they sound good to me. I don't know if the pitch needs to be adjusted either. I don't have much of an ear for this kind of thing, but I think it sounds better than the mono version.

Thanks for the rip, but the title of the thread is a bit misleading. This isn't the album cut, it's the remix with Shadow's track. I'm sure most realize that, but just in case someone didn't know. This ain't what's gonna be on HSC.
Edit: Diggin' the motherfuckin' hook on this joint.

I just can't bring myself to download any more unofficial official tracks from megaupload or yousend it.
all these individual files ripped from fans just don't do it for me...
so can anyone put this mash-up on youtube?

That's weird. I wonder if it is because I only downloaded the Beastie Boys tracks from the torrent (I guess I should download the whole thing and listen).

i just listened again and the vocal sound a tiny bit sped up but it isnt that just down to it having to fit with the other track. i'm no expert and i havent seen a lot about dj hero but my experience of mixing tracks means that sometimes two tracks dont mix together without sometimes having to radically alter the tempo which obviously affects the vocals. but i may be talking out of my arse.

hey now. if this is in fact true, though, at least the vocals won't be all chopped up and stuttery on the official version.

Nice...but it's not complete. I need the album version. Too choppy for my taste. Did I mention choppy? choppychoppy.

i like the choppy! and i really love the way the lyrics are cut up.. i wish they'd do that more actually
id bet that that pwow-pwow-pwow sound is horovitz
i really hope that most of the background is from the original, im enjoying the instrumentation on this..
the guitarey tone hits remind me a little of license to ill
i really really really want a remix album. the dj hero remixes are so fucking tight, imagine a whole album of that treatment

Just FYI the tracks play fine in Windows Media Player the problem I was having is because I opened the files with Audacity.

Mike has been the star on all of the tracks released so far, imo. And while his Honest Mike, Honest Mike D line kills me I think Ad Rock finally stepped it up for the big win.

I'll concede to Tippi Hedren. I like Jimmy Hendrick better, but tippi is a more obscure rhyme, so I still dig it. Where are you hearing bredren?

I think MCA has out-shined his fellow band mates emcees on this album, to be honest he has consistently and constantly been putting out in-depth & thoughtful lyrics. However, Mike is known for his braggadocious lyrics to me and Ad-Rocka is known for his witty and clever rhymes to me...Damn....now that I think about it...I love the way they spit and ride the rhythms plus their unique blend of content styles blend nicely...I'm amped for these two albums...Just my opinion or 2 cents

Rather than this somewhat shitty idea involving the same old rhymes and the hit-and-miss of remixing, they should just do an album with outside producers (good ones - unusual ones). Especially since it seems it doesn't take them long to come up with rhymes.

You know what? Fuck this remix. It's cool hearing new bboys shit in any form, but it's not all that. It's evident that Adrock's opening is gonna jump off, but then you gotta hear them chop the shit it out of it and pull it back 3 or 4 times. C-H-O-P-P-Y. I wanna hear flows, not a DJ spinning back the same shit over and over. The album version is gonna be dope, guaranteed. Can't wait.

This makes me think about how much I wanted them to do an album with the Prunes. That shit would have rocked.

Yeah, I couldn't give a fuck about it to be honest. I mean I can get into remixes, the Just Blaze thing was cool. But this one just makes me frustrated I can't hear the proper track. And choppy can be all good within reason, but this is just choppy for the sake of it.

well, it's certainly tailored for the specific purpose of being used in a DJing game. but as just a listen, outside of gaming boundaries, I think the general consensus is that it's just not quite listenable; or groovable, at least.
Rodie
11-06-2009, 11:24 PM
And I agree with you I just want to make sure people realize why it is the way it is. I'm sure DJ Shadow would've done a proper remix much differently.

I only doubt it because it's edited out - that's why I thought it had to be something offensive. It's probably a custom gap in the vocal for the rhythm-based shenanigans of the game. Here's hoping.

Can't tell if that's sincere or you're making fun of me. I guess it depends on what's meant to come after the ellipsis...
I do agree w/ your latter post. I think it's meant as a vocal pause for you to throw some sort of weird cut in during the game play.

it would be cool to hear that Mike and Horovitz were spending this time off to keep plowing away at HSC, adding and perfecting and polishing and building, to make HSC a supreme powerhouse beyond even where it was prior to the Yauch scare.

Thing I don't get is why there are guitar stabs and organ in B-Boys in the cut and they're buried miles back in the mix. I don't get why you have to strain to hear it.

Well so far all we have heard of it are low-quaity mp3s and audio rips. Hopefully it'll sound more robust in its final version.

You have to strain to hear the guitar in Too Many Rappers. Some things are meant to be buried, I get that. Just a pointless observation.
