I've been thinking recently that after hsc pt1&2 and a world tour the beasties might retire from being a band, because MCA's cancer might have been triggered by years of rapping(just like DMC lost his voice from years of rapping)now this is all guess work and hope its not true, but all good things must come to an end.

I don't think it's going to be any time soon. Unlike other bands and artists, they don't seem to be in it for the fame or VIP lifestyle, more because they're making the music they want to make. It seems like they still enjoy making music, and they obviously get on with each other.
Hopefully they'll be chillin' like Bob Dylan years from now.
Edit - I don't think you get cancer from rapping too much. DMC's problem is spasmodic dysphonia - it's more like a psychological thing. There was an interesting article (http://www.wired.com/medtech/health/magazine/17-08/ff_adams) about it on Wired a little while back.

In 20 years they will be just like in the cover of "Sounds of Science". And still chillin', and chillin' well!
Hopefully, I'll take my kids (still non existant) to go to a beastie concert and they (bboys) will be using canes, white beards, false teeth (hopefully not), and old man's hats. It's gonna be the coolest thing.
Today, I was thinking about something. There's this man I work with. He's like one year older than Yauch and it's hard to believe that. I keep thinking that if he were one of the beasties I would never see him as an old man. Probably because he looks 57. Hahahaaaa. However, the Beastie Boys will never get old to me. Maybe, gracefully. Hihihihi. They keep me young too , whenever I'm listening to their songs or watching their videos and interviews.
Anyway, they should NOT retire! :D
Sorry.:p

Not a challenge, (more out of interest) but what has he been working on?
And re:Westsiiiiiiiiiiide, sampling 'Hurt' was nothing short of genius. That ish still gets rotation in the suburbs. (y)

well let's see... Off the top of my head I know he mixed that "One Day As A Lion" project with Zack de La Rocha. He also produced a few tracks for that group Slightly Stoopid's record last year. He's done some remixes for Delicious Vinyl I recall in the last coupla years too. He worked on Mark's last record (no surprise). In that Redbull Academy interview, a must-watch I think, he lists some artists he's been working with. He moved down to Brazil a few years ago apparently, so does alotta ish with south american artists. I'm pretty sure he's done work with Jack Johnson too within the last few years too.
P.S. I wrote this post listening to Westside Connection's "The Gangsta, The Killa, and The Dope Dealer". I think it's even cooler than Trent Reznor let them use that sample.

I dont think they'll ever "retire", but eventually you'll get a lull like the one between Hello Nasty and TT5B. Except this time they'll be a decade older and will decide they just don't feel like doing it anymore. And they'll quietly drift into the sunset.

^ They might still tour though. Or do a TV performance every once in a while.

we're going to see the beasties in concert lookin like the anthology cover for years to come. YOU DON'T HAVE BE YOUNG TO HAVE STYLE! if other big acts are any indication it's not going to end anytime soon. the beasties are legends! In the same superstar status as the beatles, aerosmith, U2. as long as there is a fan base there will be new beastie boys music. We get our panties in a bunch cause they postpone an album. keep in mind how popular they are over seas. millions of cd sales in japan alone. At most we may see the major labels drop them in the next 5 years because it's no longer profitable. but the boys will just put out an album strait on grand royal. And I agree they should go back and do a collaboration with their first dj, Rick Ruben!! it's been long over due.

His most recent project is with a Denver band named the Flobots, recording at the blasting room north of Denver. they're a great band, so much better then the handlebars song most of you have heard.

For some reason I don't think Rubin is interested in many hip-hop endeavors anymore. A Jay-Z song here, a Nike ad there, but I think it's pretty apparent that his rap days are far gone. That said, it would be cool to see what he would bring to the table this many years of experience later.

why wouldn't Rubin want to? he wouldn't be producing 99 problems or Nike commercials had the beastie boys not wanted a bubble machine. Russell Simmons booked them to play The Encore in Queens opening for Curtis Blow. the bubble machine that Rick Rubin didn't end up having started it all. Even if it was just one track it would be sick to get Rick back in the studio with the Bboys.
