View Full Version : Dirty Little Secrets

In order to avoid the derision of my friends, BF, and family, I occasionally indulge in stupid things in private. I KNOW they're lousy, I should have better taste, but I just.can't.help.myself. I read stupid books, listen to awful music, watch terrible movies. I WANT THEM SO BAD! And even after my indulgence in it, I still know it's bad but I think about it often - probably because I know it's a secret and I can't let it slip. Sometimes when I'm angry or offended by someone, I think back to that horrible movie, that cheesy song, that poorly written drivel, and I giggle inwardly and smirk outwardly because it's mine, my dirty little secret, my own...my precioussssss.

I people watch all the freaking time and make little stories about where people have been or going and sometimes they are horrible actions I make the stranger do (in my mind) and I feel bad. I should start saying sorry to them.

I definitely get that way too.

I feel like having a few harmless secrets to retreat to when I feel like I need some privacy - even when I can't get any just knowing they exist makes me feel better. I think it's some kind of coping mechanism.

I have some great big dirty secrets.

You can tell me, for all the consequences I would have on your life, I might as well be in your imagination. I don't want to be in Adam's imagination, though, where I'd be strangling puppies and doing coke off the bare chests of illegal immigrant child porn stars, or whatever he's got in mind.

Well I wasn't thinking that sick, but now I will since you've said it.

I mean other things like 'he has been seeing some-one else behind his wifes back' or 'that women stole a purse from church' or 'he just saw some1 get mugged and hasn't reported it or done anything about it' or 'that guy just mugged that women who has just come back from reporting her purse stolen' Or even, 'poor guy lost his son in the war and thinks about suicide every day'.

I do genuinely feel sorry for them though cus of their inner-conflicts. Its probably a way to mask mine by giving everyone issues (y)

I could tell you, or the whole board for that matter, and it would not come back at me in "real life" but all you 1s and 0s would think less of me and then I would have to try and justify my actions to the great internetual abyss.

I think rirv mugged a lady who was already having her worst day ever. Later that day she mis-carriages (she didn't even know she was pregnant after trying for years). When she gets home there a letter there from her husband saying he's leaving...

IT WAS RIRV!! wait, you mugged your wife???!?!?! YOU MONSTER!

I think I can't handle teasing very well. I try to keep things a secret because I don't want to hear people making fun of me. It hurts too much. I would make fun of me, if I were them. In fact I do make fun when I see someone enjoying what I only enjoy in secret. This is so that people think I hate it too. But then this would make it even worse if people found out that I secretly liked it, after all the talk I made about how stupid it was. In place of the real guilty pleasures I install false ones. I pretend to like Hannah Montana and that Eddie Murphy movie, Norbit, and then I pretend to be ashamed of it. I have a metaphorical secret drawer of guilty pleasures and beneath that ruse another double secret drawer of even guiltier pleasurier pleasures. My shame has more layers than an onion.

Yes! Why is that? Knowing you have a secret makes you feel secure. What are we coping with? Is it some feeling that our lives don't totally belong to us, so we have to keep things to ourselves to gain a sense of control?

this made me giggle until I snorted.

I have one movie in particular I kind sort of actually kind of love a lot and I don't have the balls to admit it to anyone. I'd get made fun of mercilessly because I'm known as an anti-chick flick kind of girl.

I'm ashamed of myself but I can't help it. In fact now I want to watch it and I am pretty sure it's on demand at the moment. But my boyfriend is home. I kind of want him to leave so I can watch it without feeling like an asshole.

I don't need to prove people that I'm cool. I'm not cool and that's what's great about it. I'd rather be human. I watch great movies, but I prefer the ones that are lame because life is lame. Lame music is real. Good music too, but we can't be 'perfect' all the time. I let it go. And it went. I'm laaaaaame and that's okay because nobody cares. Not even my dog cares. Blah, blah, blah.

My favorite movie is "Pretty in Pink". I've watched it like 100 times since I was a kid and it makes me happier than any big Hollywood production, although they may be quite good, smart and all that.

I am a total fraud. That's my dirty little secret. I used to play in a band and none of my loser friends ever came to see me. So in their minds exists a mystique: a rock star singer, a musician with great taste in bands. But it's all smoke and mirrors. I am a mediocre singer at best and know fuck all about popular music. I can barely play my guitar and the only excuse I have for my drum playing is that I'm a beginner.

But it doesn't stop me from mocking whatever they like which for some reason makes them think I know more than they do. Shhhh, don't tell!

That's part of it for me. Married life means you are pretty much forced to share certain things.

I see it as a delicate balance between the pleasure of shared experience with other people and the neurotic need to have secrecy concerning arbitrary things. To have the total freedom to do whatever I want, simply because no one else will know.

I typically find Julia Roberts and her films pretty uninteresting but this one I like.

i have so many dirty little secrets. and it's not that i dont want to be judged for having these cheesy tastes (cause i dont really care, everybody has some), it's more about having these little moments that only belong to you. watching a cheesy chick flick or having all-day-SATC or 90210 marathons in your PJs while eating a giant bag of sour patch kids... it's something that i enjoy doing cause it's mindless and having to explain it to someone is annoying. there are many things that i like to do that i will only do when i'm absolutely alone. i guess those are dirty little secrets, but mostly they're just things that are very relaxing and bringing someone into it makes it less so.

here's one ive never told: i really like (and have) almost every chipmunks album. the xmas one is my favorite.

Oh my god I am totally buggin. I love that movie too, and Mean Girls, beeyotch. But I'm not ashamed of those.

There are movies I really want to see, and I don't love to re-watch them, I'm just ashamed to have wanted to sit through them even just once. But you see, I enjoy movies for various reasons. Somtimes I just want to look at the movie, not so much enjoy the story or the acting. I'm also embarrassed to really like movies when deep down I know I only like it because it has cute guys in it and I don't want to be that shallow and obvious about sexual attraction.

Yes, yes, yes, and maybe - probably not. I was a big liar as a child. In kindergarten I had a long running narrative about a family of large dogs that lived next door to me. I kept the teacher updated about it. She acted like she believed it but I bet she knew I was a fibber. And I used to lie to grown ups all the time just to have something interesting to say so they'd pay attention to me. If one was walking me to the vending machine I'd be like "I know someone whose dad works for a vending machine company and they always eat vending snacks for dinner every night and all they drink is soda pop."

as for a dirty secret...well, that one guy the "32 year old" dude, "Nathan", I made a billion threads about 5 years ago is in a band that opened for my boyfriend's favorite band recently. we were at the show and I didn't have to say "hi" to him at all, but I did on the way out. He gave me a huge hug and said, "good to see you, I don't see you enough". and I was like, "okay, bye, gotta go".

anyway, I don't know why I did that. for old time's sake, attention...who knows.... Either way, my I love my boyfriend and I'm not trying to start no drama. besides, "nathan" is still dating the same chick he was talking about leaving 5 years ago, she was there and looked grumpy. and they've both put on about 30 more pounds each. okay, that was rude, I didn't need to say that. even though it's true.

I think it is meant to be a serious drama but its more soap than Eastenders at times. So yeah, it feels dirty watching it and was a secret until now.
