I've been on holiday for almost two weeks, and because I was working outside normal office hours for a week or so, my boss gave me an extra day off as a way of saying thanks (which I used as part of my holiday).

I'm due back at work tomorrow, but I genuinely feel like shite. I think I have toad-flu or whatever it is doing the rounds at the moment. I have been getting steadily worse for the last 24 hours and can tell this is all going to culminate in the Webster's dictionary definition of 'feeling like shite' tomorrow.

The only trouble is that I've had to extend holidays by a day 3 times in the past - twice for cancelled trains back from London, and once for being... well... sick :/

I think they will suspect I am taking the piss, especially as I already had the extra day off, but on the other hand I am actually quite ill *cough cough*. See?

I do live quite near work, so I could always just walk past the window with a sign saying 'SEE... I TRIED, BUT NOW I NEED TO GO BACK TO BED AND WATCH TWEENIES WITH THE SOUND OFF WHILE SHIVERING IN BED NAKED'.

Decisions decisions.

This happened to me last year when I returned from a trip to France. I was so ill had to call out sick the entire week following my trip. I went to the doc and everything so there's no way I could get into trouble...and I also am a nurse so the boss wouldn't have wanted me ill taking care of super ill people.

I would think with all the flu stuff going around they would WANT you to stay home. At least that's what its like around here.

maybe go in looking like death and send you home. or maybe ring in saying you are going to docs.
its a risky move chucking one after a holiday, i dont know yer boss so i dont know what they are gonna say but if you play it like you are mega ill and offer to come in on a double bluff type scenario you might get away with it. you sure your not just putting off goin in co it only get worse the longer you stay off.

I'd say you should probably go in. At least go in in the morning and then if no one has had the good sense to send you home by noon you walk your pasty, sweaty ass into your boss's office and ask through a few coughs (which you should poorly cover with your half closed fist) if you can go home.
