not sure if this was posted before, but Radiohead made a very beautiful song after the death this summer of Britain's last known surviving WWI veteran Harry Patch (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harry_Patch)

I was trying to observe the 2 minutes of silence at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month and a leaky faucet wrecked it all...

i was going to post something on sunday about this. dunno if they have rememberance sunday as well as marking it on the 11th all over the world but they do in uk.

I have never really recognised it other buying the odd poppy and doing the silence at work. Obviously i am aware of its significance but have never really got involved so to speak.

But this year was different, i was taking my daughter to the shop on sunday and they were having a ceremony up at the local war memorial and there were a load of people laying wreaths and a brass band was playing. my daughter wanted to see what was going on and she quietly listened while the brass band played. I should point out that i used to be in brass bands as a kid and my dad always came with me to support me (he passsed away 3 years ago) and i start thinking about all that whilst this band played and suddenly i am floods of tears thinking about him.

I know its supposed to be a time of remebering those who fought for freedom etc but i had never thought it could just be a time for personal reflection or remberance.
