No dedicated servers = no sale!:mad::mad:
i'm probably some kind of gaming satan for saying this but i actually kind of prefer the matchmaking system, it makes it much easier to just pop in and find a game and play. like when i want to play a game of COD4 now, i have to look through the servers, find one with a good amount of people playing and a decent ping and great, i'm in, oh whoops, this one is some stupid hardcore reality sim version where there's no radar and you get kicked for shooting without iron sights and sprinting when you're not in cover, ok, guess i'll disconnect, refresh the list...waiting...waiting...ok, what do we got, hey, this one looks good, guess i'll just play a round and man, that was fun, can't wait until...what? didn't we just play pipeline? oh i guess this is a pipeline 24/7 server, suppose i'll just log out and...refresh the list and...you know what i don't want to play anymore
i guess it is a dick move of them to take away your option to do that entirely but i dunno i don't really care personally

To be honest it sounds like you're both just being gimps. It's the best FPS ever made, stop nitpicking.
Gamers these days are never happy, I swear. I am as I downloaded it for free, SWISH

comment from a philistine who hasnt had a games system since me ps2 bust about 4 years ago.
freebasser says he isnt going to buy it because of no dedicated servers, i get that and i know what that means but cant you just play the game, like NOT ONLINE. Is that totally bad form now? Also i understand how online gaming can be great but could someone just extol the virtues to me? I would be reluctant because i wouldnt be able to get on with the game if i ended up playing COD for examle against a load of spotty teenagers with better reactions and i would get all frustrated.

MW2 has about 5 hours of single player and then all that's left is online play.
If I can't play on the same server every time with the same honest likeable regulars, then there's little point in me playing the multiplayer.
£35 for a 5 hour single player game is pretty crap.

is that 5 hours of single play, if you can do it all and are some sort of wizard. or is it easy?
so, just to ask another question, whats the alternative if you havent got servers to choose from.

5 hours seems to be the average time it's taking most people to get through it, judging from reviews and forums.
The alternative is IWNET - Infinity Ward's system. Instead of finding your server in a server list, it matches you up against other people of a similiar rank, and hosts the game on the computer of the player who starts the match. Basing on rank is all well and good - unless of course somebody who's excellent at the game starts again with a new profile.
The person who hosts the game has zero ping, as the game is being played on their computer. The further you are away from them, the worse your connection will be. Most games will be choppy and near unplayable, because the average home modem isn't cut out to handle that kind of data. Dedicated servers are located centrally to most players and have massively higher bandwith so ping is generally not an issue, meaning everyone gets the same deal.
You won't be able to sign into the same server and meet the same people at any time of day. All the people you normally play with will have to be in your buddy list and all waiting in a game lobby at the same time in order to play with you. No more dropping in whenever you feel like it.
No more server admins. Nobody to kick rude and abusive players, racists, punk kids, cheaters etc. Infinity Ward said cheating would be impossible with IWNET. A week in to the game and already people are hacking - and now there's no way to kick them, because there's no admins.
No more 32 vs 32 players. Maps are restricted to 9 vs 9.
Just some of the problems.

Oh be quiet, it's brilliant. Sure, if you hammer the campaign mode you'll complete it in an afternoon. But that's not the point and you're supposed to collect all the intel, get all the achievements, play it on veteran, do spec ops, do some co-op etc. That's far more than 5 hours of play, and then of course the excellent online multiplayer. I have a shitty connection here in Germany and even I've had some excellent games. I generally play my various Army mates (all on the same camp) and have no problems.
Guy Incognito

so you cant ring up your mates or go on one of the forums and organise games together? Is that not possible anymore?
edit: that was to freeb, didnt see helvete's post

That's why you have no problems, you may as well be playing over a LAN.
The people I play with regularly are dotted all over Northern and Western Europe, with 1 or 2 also in the US.
Multiplayer on MW2 would be impossible for us.

But like I mention, I have a really horrible connection (seriously slow), but when I play at home on my decent connection I never had a problem no matter where the people I was playing were from. And seeing as I normally used to play late at night, it was always Americans. Within Europe would never be a problem.
I need to play this one day.

Microsoft (NSDQ: MSFT) this week booted as many as 1 million players from its Xbox Live gaming service due to the company's belief that they modified their consoles to play games illegally downloaded from file sharing sites.
One day I will own a 360 and this game will be 20 bucks (y)

The few people I know that have already bought this game (PC and 360 versions) have been raving about it. But they are part of the 80% below...
If I get it it will be for the 360, as I gave up on PC gaming a long while back. For 80% of the people buying it on a PC they won't care that it's a console port, as they don't run their own servers, don't know what lag even is, can't tell if people are cheating, don't run mods, and wouldn't know what the console even was if they accidentally brought it up.
For the 20% left, I feel bad, the hardcore, the guys who made mods, the guys who run their own servers at their own expense to make the experience all the more fun for everyone, the guys who discover the little tweaks to make the game run sooo much better on different systems, the guys who can spot cheating a mile away and boot people so that others can have a fair game. These are the guys who will ring every ounce out of a game and keep it going years beyond it's intended lifespan, these are true fans.
Unfortunately...........
The game companies are following the money, the money isn't in the 20% obviously.
I've been loving it online. I've missed it's twitchy, fast, frenetic gameplay. I've only really played free for all so far and I'm loving the new maps, well apart from the Brazilian slums level - too many campers for my liking.
I wonder if they'll add any COD4 maps as dlc in the future?

i hope they don't. the only map that i really don't like is Quarry. what a pile of shit.
all the glitches are starting to be found though which is shit. especially since i prefer hardcore mode so i don't even get a killcam

i dont want to play the old man card here but some of you fuckers dont know yer born when it comes to gaming whingeing about servers and pings and suchlike. I appreciate this new game does seem to have problems but i have 4 words for you:
R Tape Loading Error.
thats proper gaming pain.
addict here!
only complaint i have is having a shit ping everytime i play online - more aussie servers ASAP, bro! doesn't stop me though; you can still play it fairly smoothly. i don't care that it's a 5 hour game... gimme an entertaining and fuckin' epic 5 hours as opposed to a boring, repetitive 20 hours any day. makes it more fun the next time you decide to play campaign on a harder difficulty. COD has always been about multiplayer anyway. it kicked MOH in the balls for online play.
the makarov airport mission is fuckin' brutal btw.

my boyfriend won this game off the blockbuster twitter and we are still waiting for it.
Oh and it's on PS3 so I can't rack up some stats and points on 360.
But it was free so I shouldn't whine that it's late nor on 360. I guess.

we got it last night!!!!
Except we went out last night. And are going out again tonight. Then again maybe tomorrow. And then Saturday night for an early birthday party for me.
All of these things = bithdays. That means no game until Sunday for me. Or Friday, if I flake out. Because he announced his party just last night god damn it.
Anyways. I don't like birthdays right now. I have this, L4D2, the new mario, and Darkside Chronicles to play.:mad::mad:
