View Full Version : World heavyweight champions in boxing
I doubt most people know who are the current heavyweight champions in boxing. I looked them up and here they are:
Current world heavyweight champions. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_current_world_boxing_champions#Heavyweight _.28200.2B_lb.2C_90.7.2B_kg.29)
It's interesting that two Ukrainian brothers hold heavyweight belts. They dominate all the boxing organization titles, with the exception of one organization, who's champion is from England.
Unless I'm unaware that they're broadcasting heavyweight matches, I've never seen any advertised heavyweight matches on television for a long time.
Did the heavyweight boxing craze die with Tyson?

Most boxing died with Tyson along with the popularity of UFC/MMA. I'd rather spend my PPV bucks on a MMA fight chuck full of a mixed card then on two guys that are allowed 6 types of punching.
I find boxing to be more barbaric and damaging than MMA. 12 rounds of being slugged in the head and body?

david haye becoming WBA champ has revitalised it in uk again after Lewis retired and if he fights the urkranians its gonna get big again but along with lewis , tyson was the last great star really.
I am not into UFC but know loads who are so maybe echewta has a point. I like all aspects of boxing, including the art of not getting hit which is why you should watch haye v valueev again if you get the chance cos it was a brilliant excercise in boxing just not a lot of trading going on
The brothers have been quoted saying that it is only a matter of time until they unify the WBA title belt which is currently held by David Haye. If they achieve this feat, the Klitschko brothers will become the first brothers in heavyweight boxing history to simultaneously hold all of the belts.
That is a remarkable feat.
I'm watching the Wladimir Klitschko vs Ruslan Chagaev match now, and Wladimir is completely outclassing Chagaev.

haye has only fought 3 times at heavyweight, no fucker gave him a chance and most people thought he hadnt done enough to win despite his tactics being the right ones, turns out he broke his hand in round 3. so he's on his way to becoming a national hero but i think if he beats ruiz, either one of the brothers will despatch him, it'll be a big event but i think he'll get battered but i thought valueev would beat him on points. so what so i know.

i'm not particularly into boxing or mma, but sometimes a bout will pop up that i'll go to the pub to watch...like whenever pacquiao is fighting.
pac is awesome to watch.
heavyweight boxing is kinda down lately its all about Manny Pacquiao and Kelly Pavlik.
