i don't have a real wide range of albums i know fully. but i am a real big fan of "chocolate and cheese".
i heard the country album once and i enjoyed it, but i have no idea what its actual name is.
they are pretty popular around here seemingly, so i always seem to miss out on their concerts since i am a slacker about guying tickets. one of these days though, one of these days....

Pure Guava, The Mollusk, and The White Pepper are great
La Cucaracha only has a handful of fun songs (n)

12 golden country greats was no novelty. they brought in some hardcore Nashville session guys for that album and made some pretty good tunes that stand on their own as some good alt-country tunes or something like that... yeah they have goofy titles and lyrics but that's just ween.
I prefer, as other mentioned, The Mollusk, Chocolate & Cheese, Pure Guava, and God Ween Satan.
haven't heard much since the Mollusk but I hear they are still a great live act...

cool, thankyou guys. I had a listen to snippets of god satan and a lot of that sounded awesome. I just remember being played a track years ago that went Baby baby baby, bitch, fuck you, you stinking assed ho..... Or similar. Always stuck with me and it was time to check them out properly!!

I've got Chocolate and cheese, Mollusk and 12 Country Greats, and I love all of them! I remember when Foo Foghters played here the first time (at Cirkus, which holds about 1200) they played the whole of 12 Country Greats before arriving on stage :D
I think I've downloaded La Cucaracha, but as I don't listen to that much music on my computer can't say much about it.
Quite resently I saw a live DVD with them (with alt. angles) and they were absolutely fantastic! They've played here only once, but for some reason I didn't attend that gig (I think I was abroad) which still bugs me. I'd love to see them live!
No need to pick and choose which albums to get. They all kill everything you love, so delete some shitty albums you never listen to and download them all.
If a gun was placed to my head and I needed to pick a favorite, I'd have to go with The Mollusk.

The Mollusk, Chocolate & Cheese, Quebec, and White Pepper are all solid front to back.

Baby Bitch, gbsuey.
it's from Chocolate & Cheese.
I nominate C&C as a Ween starter album, it's got enough goofy tracks, "AIDS", "Candy", "Mister Would You Please Help My Pony"
as well as some better crafted songs- "Baby bitch" and "Freedom of '76" stand out to me...
add in the instrumental "A Tear for Eddie" and "Voodoo Lady" and you've got a nice eclectic starting point for Gene and Dean...

Gener came through to Club Cafe only a few months ago for a few acoustic sets. It was far better than I imagined. I thought he would crank out some acid-induced shit he wrote in '91 (which would still rule), but surprisingly, he covered a shit ton of Ween B-sides (I screamed Boys Club, he laughed and said "Ahh, what the fuck and rocked that shit) and the usual gems. Excellent show considering there was maybe 50 people there. The only downer was that Claude was supposed to open for him and play some Amandla, but he couldn't make it for some reason.

In case it needs to be emphasized further, 12 Golden Country Greats is infinitely better than the Country Mike joint.
And as already mentioned, Chocolate & Cheese is hands down the easiest of their albums to get into, but The Mollusk is just as good.
I can't shake The Mollusk as my favorite because of Cold Blows the Wind, It's Gonna Be (Alright), and She Wanted to Leave. Quebec is up there, though. If You Could Save Yourself (You'd Save Us All) is some momentous shit. It's crazy to think that these 2 weirdos (who could easily be extras from Gummo) are 2 amazing songwriters.

no doubt.
i dont like a lot of country but that album is pretty legit. its not that corny country thats all over the radio. plus the lyrics are funny (like a lot of their stuff).

Mollusk is my favorite. I can't believe nobody mentioned the the Pod though. They made it when they had mono. It's got Dr. Rock on there. It reminds me be of Beck's pre-mellow gold stuff.

i would try to get them in order of release, but The mollusk and White Pepper are my favorites. White Pepper is just like a collection of perfect pop songs, but it's still kind of funny because you know it's ween playing them. Oh and you don't have to be on drugs to enjoy them either.

been ha ha
.......And don't just limit it to their studio albums! Ween featuring the Shit Creek Boys--Live in Toronto (country album days) and Live at Stubb's are both awesome. Their rendition of Piano Man on Toronto is worth it alone.....for what, 20 seconds?

Been listening to The Mollusk a lot lately. Twice a day for the last three days, usually just repeat after the first listen.
When I'm not on that I'm on Chocolate and Cheese.
Fucking great band.

Me?
Fucking great band.
That said, I usually skip Spinal Meningitis. It's a good song, I got through the whole thing maybe twice. It gives me the fucking creeps, which I suppose is a testament to it's good-ness.
gbsuey. How dare he not report.
I know you're good. I changed my football team from FancyPants (Ween) to Fabulous Weapons (EODM).
Had to change it up.

DR ROCK!!!
love that album and the Leonard Cohen reference with the album cover art.
from the liner notes
"Recorded by Dean and Gene Ween on a Tascam four-track cassette recorder between January and October 1990. All songs recorded at the Pod, where we lived for a year and 10 months. (with our cat Mandee) The Pod was scenically located on Van Sant Road in Solebury Township, Pennsylvania. Our apartment was a haven for flies because it sits in the middle of a horse farm. In the time this album was completed, we filled up 3,600 hours of tape, and inhaled 5 cans of Scotchgard. This album was then produced and mixed by Andrew Weiss (our pal) at the Zion House of Flesh, Hopewell, New Jersey. Straight to DAT Mang. Mean Ween played the bass on “Alone” and that’s him on the cover doin’ up some nitrous oxide powered bongs. We got evicted on October 1, 1991. But Dave Ayers says he’s gonna help us out. Cover and art designs by Logorhythms."

Everyone says this one is the least accessible of their albums but I just don't hear it. Compelling melodies, mostly standard song structure. Is it the lyrics? Cuz I don't think they're that much more out there than other Ween.

Everyone is obviously retarded.
IMO, their newest is their least inviting, which sucks because I remember reading articles about how excited they were about the upcoming album and how brown it was. Then I listened to it and was all "HUH? That's it?!"

Was that 'La Cucaracha'? I thought it was tolerable, but it does'nt compare to the "Mollusk to Quebec" era.
The early stuff is just downright ridiculous fun. 'Pure Guava' was my intro to the band, and it was at a time where it just made perfect sense. Good band for ears for listening.
