i don't like gmail at all. they're evil. im trying to avoid having an account at google altogther since you tend to stay signed in when doing non-gmail activities such as searching the internet. they personalize your search results and whatnot.

maybe they changed things around since they first introduced gmail but it used to be that they pretty much built an enormous profile for your account based on your activities on google. not for that.

yeah I was suspicious when I received emails from my friends which were solicitations they didn't even know about....very odd

I'm looking for a reliable "professional" source for email, I have lycos right now and they seem to be getting spotty.

Is there a way to turn that off? I like the gmail interface with the threading and all that and it has been very reliable.

I like the gmail interface with the threading and all that and it has been very reliable.i'm sure there are some settings to level your privacy officially but there is no doubt in my mind that once you have an account, one way or another, you're going to give away a lot of information about yourself to them unknowingly.

I guess I'll keep an eye out in this thread for other email options. I wonder how much personal information has already been gathered about me and how long and in what format it will be stored.

Seconds before seeing this thread I opened an gmail account cus I just bought a new andriod phone (HTC Hero).

Mainly because I couldn't get my yahoo mail working in it and I read somewhere to get the best out of the android using email (which I use a lot of) to open a gmail. having 2nd thoughts after reading. Plus I ain't been able to get gmail running either

if gmail keywording your emails for personalized search results bothers you, i surely hope you are not a member of facebook, myspace or any other networking site....

i really like the gmail interface. the only thing that i do not like about it is the inability to sort my emails into folders for archiving purposes. although the search feature is good enough it almost doesn't matter. plus, that feature more or less doesn't exist on webmail services.

i dont use my gmail a lot right now because i primarily use a school account, but i use the hell out of google docs and calendar for school stuff and use chrome for my browser. when i graduate i'll be using gmail for all my email shizzle.

i love google. and if anyone has any wave invites, WANT

Use labels. They work like folders. Gmail is the best. I use to hate webmail until I tried Gmail.

i love my gmail. i fully realize that google basically knows everything about me and that they might as well own my brain, but i feel like it's a small price to pay for the convenience they've brought into my life. google voice has been heaven sent for me, now i can talk to momz mad cheap from anywhere, and i basically appreciate everything google has done for making my life a little simpler.

as a side note, if google is reading and wants to hire me, i'll quit my job for you baby. oh yeahhh.
