broke my heart.
Its tough when your all time sporting hero does something like that to your national team.
:(
Its sport. I admit I am not a follower of football or tend to lean any favouritism to one particular team but I'm from an irish background but you know, its sport - it happens and it does suck and when the prize is so massive it sucks even more but it is what it is. 4 referees are supposed to catch such incidents and they didn't. But I doubt there is one professional sportsman that hasn't done something at least a couple of times which they know is cheating and have managed to get away with it. 99 out of a 100 he wouldn't of.
They act on impulses nano-seconds apart and I bet he wishes he didn't use his hand - he didn't plan to, but you can't replay or change the result.
But its sport, nothing can be 100% when humans are in charge of the game.

aww mate, you must be gutted, it was an absolute sickener, i really wouldnt have objected if richard dunne had chinned him at the end of the game, you could see he was stunned that henry came over and gave him a hug.
i dont think there will be a replay but i think something is going to happen. Its been blown up too much now. With the maradona incident, the world cup carried on and the issue dissapated, there is a big gap now and the draw soon so i think the issue is going to rumble on and there is a precedent but i cant see it not with platini meddling.
If, and its a big if, France go on to win it, there's going to be an almighty shitstorm but i wouldnt rule them out of winning.
Eire were by far better side.
its what he's gonna be remebered for and thats a shame.

thats bullshit. a massive load of bullshit.

they have tried it in a couple of europa league matches and big decisions still got missed. i really think this is the best case for a replay ever but its not going to happen. Its the best case cos everyone including henry has said it shouldnt have counted but it just sets a very large high profile precedent which could cause total chaos.

footballs a fluid game. thats just how its played. theres no room for it. how would it be implemented?

i was going to post a youtube link for those out of the loop, but all the videos are aweful and are just people moaning about it.
dude admitted that it was a handball, he reacted like anyone else would have. i highly doubt that any other player in the world would have stopped dead afterwards.
give the guy a break. sucks yeah, but shit happens.

This (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4QNHlFDbxvY&feature=related) one shows it very clearly. You can see how intentional it was. He didn't just touch it, he actually caught it with his arm before he tapped it with his fingers.

I think at the professional level this fluidity is, to a certain degree, a myth. there are constant interruptions to play. injuries, 'injuries', corners, free-kicks, lengthy goal celebrations, etc are consistently holding up play. that's why there's time added on at the end.
they were speculating about replays on the Football Weekly podcast. one pundit suggested a system a bit like in American football. Managers would have a certain number of challenges per game that they could use to demand a replay. 10-30 seconds of the fourth official looking at the various angles, and if no conclusion can be made, the referee's on-field decision stands. it would be by no means a perfect system, and perhaps should be limited to controversial goals, but would prevent blatant acts like Henry's or even Ngog's dive. the players then wouldn't wheel away celebrating like nothing had happened as they would know the opposing manager would most likely challenge.

I always admired Henry as a footballer and was a bit dissapointed by this.
He did/does seem genuinely remorseful though.

I completely disagree with the frankly retarded level of protests going on here in Ireland. Its embarrassing.
There should certainly not be a replay of the game, but I think now they should definitely trial SOME kind of video reply. I would go with the "manager has x amount of challenges" per game.
My sadness has now turned to anger at my fellow countrymen though, the reaction is beyond retarded now.

As much as I like Keane, I don't think he is accurate in some of his comments.
Criticising the defenders for allowing Henry to be in that position is a bit rich considering his current failures at Ipswich. The Irish did very well in keeping Henry and his counterparts out over the two legs and I would love to see a team under Keane do the same.

Well, this is obviously nothing compared to what this guy did here in the 2nd division of the Brazilian Championship.

I was nearly crying with laughter at one point - the bit where that guys phone goes off is comedy gold.
he was 99% right though, he's made me think again, its an easy excuse , its still not right what henry did but its not the only reason they went out, maybe trappatoni did say something to his team about defending but he's never going to do that in public cos the top managers dont do that. Keanes obviously got an axe to grind but fair do's for being honest

the thing about the replays is that most other sports have them now, my only reservations are that sky will get involved and murdoch gets his fingers in that pie and its going to be tough to implement at all levels of professional football.

idk upon thinking about it in my own context, say if ronaldinho or kaka did it to keep italy out of the world cup (obviously different regions but im just putting in an example of a player i really like as an irishmen may really like henry)
and to be honest i wouldnt hate on him at all. its something i would do in the same position. you play football to win, the refs are there to decide on the actions within the game.
human error is part of the game.

People are forgetting that Ireland (rightly) has a stronger sense of patriotism than most other nations. Saying that an Italian-American wouldn't mind if Brazil beat Italy is totally uncomparable to this situation.
Either way, the FAI are being helmets and this kind of thing is part of the game. Like King Roy said, "get over it".

looks like the FAI are giving it up now, thank God.
The other thing to keep in mind, and explains the rage, is that FIFA's last minute "seeding" decision was done specifically to keep teams like France and Portugal in, at the expense of teams like Ireland, so we already felt (rightly) put upon.
They got their way in the end, anyway.
Oh well.
Now I have to decide who to follow next summer, it used to be France when we weren't there....

I'm supporting Serbia next year because Wales didn't qualify as per usual again.I hop one of the african teams do some damage to France or something.I'd be funny if North Korea draw USA too.

australia! the whole world could support australia. all we are is, basically, a giant mix of all countries.
fuck italy. we're still sour about our last world cup result. bitchcunts robbed us.

This is a possibility.

This is a definite possibility, since they hardly ever get to the finals.
Other possibilities: the US or Japan.
Lots of people seem to be jumping on the Spain bandwagon, due to Cesc/Torres. Id rather go for more of an underdog.

in all honesty the Silver Ferns might actually perform better in the World Cup. I'll wait to see the draw, but really I'll be glad if we score 1+ goals.
