This morning, I was looking through my ridiculously overflowing racks of vinyl and CD's and put on an album I probably haven't listened to in its entirety in ten years or more...
U2 - The Joshua Tree:
God, it's a great album.
I bought it in '87 because I liked Where the Streets Have No Name, I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For, and of course With or Without You. Those tunes were all over the airwaves back then, but the entire album is solid from start to finish. Bullet The Blue Sky, Running To Stand Still, Red Hill Mining Town, In God's Country, I Trip Through Your Wires, and One Tree Hill are great too.
Timeless...all those tracks could be released today and they would still sound fresh.
I usually play the "forgotten gem" game on Sunday morning, but I think I may start doing it every morning for the next couple of weeks.
I'm sure I'm not the only one who does this.
What "forgotten gems" have you blown the dust off of recently?

Joshua Tree. What a windbag piece of shit.
I've been listening to Thirteen Tales From Urban Bohemia. At least that album knows it's a piece of shit. (y)

i try to listen to stuff i've never heard as much as possible...
and unfortunately a lot of my collection i don't listen to as much as i would like to
"so much music so little time" i always say
but...
i've revisited "Spirit of Eden" and "Laughing Stock" by Talk Talk this week...
both are timeless masterpieces

Their first and best by a margin of a million. Fun songs, sad songs and phenomenal musicianship, great for a car ride to anywhere

Great album.
I think it's their best album. I never get tired of it.
Interesting you mentioned this, though. I was going to say that I've been giving their Love Movement album a chance lately. I really think it's pretty good, actually. When it first came out, I remember thinking it was a step up from Beats, Rhymes & Life. But then I lent it to a friend and never saw it again. I only recently picked it up again, since I hadn't come across the version with the extra tracks til now.
MFAJG - The Prodigy.
The only 'dance' album I can give the time of day. Break and entry still kicks arse.

Today I broke out Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers - Damn The Torpedoes
Don't Do Me Like That
Refugee
Even The Losers
Here Comes My Girl
Shadow of a Doubt
Even "Louisana Rain" is a great change of pace.
This album makes me want to grab a handful of quarters and run down to the arcade and play some pinball.
Edit: Decided I wanted to play some Zaxxon (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/4/45/Zaxxon.png) instead.

Never really gave TLM a proper chance....you've inspired me to give it another spin.

I'm glad you clarified that, because I was really pissed off at you. BTW, the album cuts are the best songs on that album.

You Tell Me isn't just the best song on that album, it's one of the best songs ever. That album is a classic through and through.
I listened to Abbey Road all the way through yesterday and again today. For the past couple of weeks, I've played a few Smiths albums over and over because I recently re-purchased them on vinyl.

Tom Petty is one of the most amazing American artists of the past 100 years. Damn the Torpedoes is just sizzling hot. The Heartbreakers have set the standard thousands of bands will never, ever reach, an amazing live show.
I recently read where Tom Petty said of all the songs he is proudest of it's Free Fallin'. When he opened the show here in Seattle a few years ago (with surprise backup vocalists Stevie Nicks and Eddie Vedder) the band played 'Free Fallin' and the crowd sang the song... full out to the rafters and popcorn vendors
Anyway I'm going to purchase this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TYqFjhadTPE&feature=player_embedded) in a few days

One of the things I like about this board is that people like yeahwho and rob appreciate Tom Petty. I've never had a friend in real life who loves Tom Petty. Even when I was a teenager and used to play his music in my old duster my friends wanted me to play something else.
I like Freefallin' but I never love Tom Petty as much without the Heartbreakers. I'm a sucker for Mike Campbell and Benmont Tench. When Pearl Jam opened for Petty, the best part of Eddie Vedder singing with Tom was when he dropped to his knees and did the "we're not worthy" thing to Mike Campbell's guitar.

Master of Puppets.
I used to love it as a wee one. I was incorrect and dumb for ever criticizing old Metallica shit. I clearly knew better at age 10 than I did at age 25.

Actually, BRL is the album with all the R&B hooks, and not to mention the overload of Consequence appearances (before he developed into a decent rapper). There are no R&B hooks on LM whatsoever. The only real drawback on LM (I like the guest appearances) are the samey Dilla beats on every song (which can also be seen as a good thing to some).
You can't really front on this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=79Qke2CVAU0), can you? Just let me know if you can.

i went on a 6 hour road trip with a bunch of friends in college, the other car listened to nothing but petty for the entire trip with no repeating albums.
i used to always grab a couple random albums when i knew i would be cooped up at my desk all day. but i haven't had that luxury in quite some time. i'll have to find a way to work that into my schedule again.

nowhere is good but i like the fact that the songs came out of their shell abit on GBA, they tried to rid themselves of the shoegazey thing. its the album i'd recommend to someone to get into them or maybe the best of.

Got a cheap copy of Battle for Los Angeles. I like it a little better now than I did in 99. There was too much awesome shit going on with hip-hop from 98-2000; a lot of these albums on the fringe of the genre like Battle and Hello Nasty were just too easy to push to the side for the whole Rawkus and even Ruff Ryders shit. Ha, old days.
Anyway, Born as Ghosts, Calm like a Bomb, maybe Microphone Check. Aside from them I don't care for much of it. Oh, and the AU version has No Shelter as a bonus track, which is probably the single best song on our version. I wouldn't really rate it as an album without that song.
Also got back into Heltah Skeltah's Magnum Force, and Elton's Yellow Brick Road (which I think rivals the white album in terms of consecutive bangers).

I can't seem to get enough Prefuse 73 these days. Vocal Studies + Uprock Narratives (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LNDYgzrB1UY) has been getting a lot of spins lately. (y)
