I'm thinking a score by either Lalo Schifrin (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lalo_Schifrin) or all new original material performed by David Bowie or Prince.

The past hit songs performed by various artists thing is kind of too 90s for me. Unless I went obscure folk/reggae/jazz with it.

A mix of Lil Jon (seriously), The Smiths, Massive Attack, Portishead, the Pharcyde, Prince, the Jackson 5, and SWV.

a score by Orbital would be nice, i know one of them dabbled in that line for a bit but it'd have to be a list of tunes from the chemical brothers, ian brown, groove armada, the clash and smokey robinson. and probably some more i havent thought of yet

1. Bia' Bia' by Lil Jon during birth scene
2. Pretty Girls Make Graves by The Smiths during the awkward high school years
3. Unfinished Sympathy during awkward break up scene
4. Otha Fish by The Pharcyde during happy post-breakup/redemption scene
5. Kiss by Prince during quirky fledgling renewed love interest scene
6. Dancing Machine by the Jackson 5 during the intense sex scene
7. Anything (Wu-Tang version) by SWV during closing credits

edit:

Forgot, Sour Times by Portishead during first day of school scene.

No Ian with the Roses?

well i couldnt choose and thought it was too obvious a choice, and his solo stuff is bit more dramatic, i was thinking FEAR or the new one Stellify. Actually yeah chuck in the last 5 minutes of I am the resurrection for some sort of crazy action bit.

i have had this dilemma before when i got asked about funeral songs and couldnt think of a suitable roses tune.

What kind of "action bit" are we talking about here? Like shoot out? High speed car chase? Or do you mean more of a chasing your child's escaped gerbil around the living room kinda thing?

LOL, i dunno, its just a fast movin piece of music with a few stops and a trippy end, maybe like a fight at school or montage of a drug fuelled night out or summat. neither me or my kids have ever had gerbils.

You can't just use the soundtrack to an existing movie. If that were a possibility, I would have just used either the Superman or Braveheart score for mine.

Ha! You are quite close as far as why I chose certain artists :)

I'm guessing the nails hit on the head included the Lil Jon and Jackson 5 selections.
