I don't mind playing them just for fun. Playing sports is actually very fun.
I went through a phase during high school in which I tried to watch football but I lost interest completely.
I just recently tried to get back into watching again but it just seems so boring plus I'm so out of the loop. I don't know who the players are or anything.

following the various narratives within sports is half the fun. if you knew some players then their impressive exploits or pitiful failures would be much more entertaining.

im a pretty avid sports fan.
something to fill the void, and just fun to root for your team.
very avid football fan, follow most of the european leagues.
i enjoy american football, but i agree it can get boring. the commercials kill me. im actually going to the bills-dolphins game tomorrow. go fins!!
pretty big basketball fan, because of the similarities to football.
not big into baseball but i pay attention to the standings and what not.
hockey i root for the local team.

o ya i enjoy the MMA. not big into boxing unless its a couple of punchers, but man PACMAN is the truth. hope he whips mayweathers ass.
Yeah, I'm not a massive sports fan anymore. Well I mainly mean football (soccer), its all there is here. Still love my martial arts though.
I kinda got bored of it by 25, the people I was watching football where numbskulls and although we grew up together I kinda grew apart from them. Used to go to every home and away Sheffield Wednesday match and was part of the noisy part of the crowd, now I couldn't even tell you what league they are in (guessing not premiership though but they was when I was going). I don't even know who the England manager is I'm that far out of loop.

i love sports
playing, watching, whatever
i've never been able to get into it, and i've tried, but i just zone out when i watch games. unless something interesting is happening it just doesn't hold my attention. baseball in particular. i will never in a million years understand why that sport is so popular to watch. it's up there with golf on the "i'm sure this is fun to play but i don't want to watch this" scale. at least with basketball and football (american and normal) and hockey things are happening at any given moment. baseball's just watching people spit mostly
and it's on like 13 months per year. annoying

I think with baseball, like with cricket, the consumption of large amounts of alcohol is needed to really enjoy the subtler points of the game. ie the heckling, mocking, booing, shouting, yelling, hollering, howling, etc.
shouting does seem to be a big part of it, both during and after the game
i just can't empathize with getting so loud and angry about something so boring though. people don't do it for golf
I like watching baseball, boxing, mixed martial arts, and soccer.

I can't relate to people who aren't into sports, actually.
They've just played such a large role in my life. Baseball and Basketball in particular.
Watching baseball has nothing to do with being drunk and rowdy.
Quite the opposite, It's cerebral.
You think you're just watching someone spit, but the entire game can change on each and every pitch.
It's a subtle game, yet an explosion is possible at any time.
It's a dynamic that I don't believe any other sport can match.
Basketball is probably as close as it gets. It's my second favorite sport.
But the NBA game is so deteriorated that it's been ruined for me.
I also grew up going to a few of the boxing gyms in Philly too. But I never loved it as much as Baseball or Basketball.
I've grown to understand and enjoy the finer points of the sport of soccer through my kids playing it. There were a few soccer clubs in my area when I was a kid, but it wasn't very prevalent. Nobody really played it that I knew.
Out of 162 regular season games of MLB baseball, I'll probably watch 150 of them from start to finish. I'd rather watch a game than some stupid sitcom or reality show.

cricket - especially test match cricket which is played over 5 days.
there are few things better than a test match the reaches the final session with the result still in the balance.

could be. but i just find it to be such a hard game to sit and watch because sure, i suppose the entire game can change on each and every pitch but 90% of the time it doesn't, it's just watching guys spit while you wait for the pitch, a bunch of pitches where not much happens, followed by commercials, then more of the same, and if you're lucky, something interesting happens
i just can't get into it, and i have tried, but i just zone out until people start yelling and then i snap out of it and try to figure out what i missed. i just think it's such a boring game to watch for hours at a time.

Some people look at a game of chess as boring too, while someone who appreciates the finer points of the game can be fascinated by single move.
You just don't understand the finer points of baseball enough to fully appreciate it, Bob.
It's too bad, because you're missing out IMO.
Sport has the ability to both positively and negatively impact the people of an entire cities' spirits and mental outlook.

QFT
I obviously kinda lied earlier, I still watch cricket when I can. And any test match is always great to watch even when you have no preference to either team
I like playing sports, but organized sports and watching them bores me to tears.
I just don't get it - I've never been able to manufacture any amount of caring whether the "home team" wins or loses. Most pro sports the players are just traded around or bought anyways. Every time I end up watching football with a friend because I had nothing else to do I regret it. I just don't get it.

right, because anybody who doesn't like sports must be a nerd.
My first job was with parks and rec, and I set up the bases and kept score for softball and baseball games. You have to watch every pitch when you keep score...it sucks. I watched enough baseball for a lifetime that summer. it's boring as fuck.
I got nothing against people who are into sports, I just think it's kind lame to expect that everyone likes sports and if they don't, they're a nerd or a weirdo.
I love love love watching hockey, but I don't follow it very closely at all anymore. I bone up on the facts during the season if my team's in the playoffs...but rarely do I pay attention otherwise. Unless I'm like "hmm, I wonder who martin lapointe is playing for now." and look it up.
I like college basketball...but I don't follow that either. Not since I was in high school.
Sports can be fun and exciting, but honestly, it's just a game with extremely well-paid players. I don't really give a shit one way or the other and find it kind of sad when people get super emotional about it. That said, I have been known to yell at a television set whilst wearing a red wings jersey. :o

professional sports are pretty dumb as entertainment.
i can dig a superbowl for the commercials, the world cup because generally people play for their own countries, hockey because its soccer on ice with sticks.
otherwise, most pro sports suck and grown men who get all worked up over a bunch of millionaires who play for whoever pays them more and probably wouldnt give your average fan more than scribble on a ball is kinda funny
im all for playing and supporting local sports(y)
You guys look at sports probably the same way I look at Star Wars.

professional sports are pretty dumb as entertainment.
What's pretty dumb is judging the validity of what other people choose as entertainment.
I'm sure plenty of people think whatever you're into is pretty dumb too.
And I'm sure you could care less.
I just don't get why people feel the need to put down sports, or a band, or whoever you're crushing on, or whatever.
I thought this generation was supposed to be so open minded nowadays?

I wouldn't classify myself as a sports fan (well full-time one anyways) but the final moments of tonight's CFL Grey cup game were AMAZING.
"The Roughriders appeared to have won their second Grey Cup in three years when Alouettes placekicker Damon Duval missed a 43-yard field-goal attempt with no time remaining.
The Riders started to celebrate the miss, only to have the merriment cut short by a penalty for having too many on the field. The penalty gave Duval a second chance and he nailed a 33-yard field goal to give the Alouettes their second Grey Cup victory in seven appearances since 2000.
None of the players would identify the extra man. Kavis Reed, the Riders special teams coach, said the player's identity didn't matter and that he was accepting the responsibility for the mistake."

I just think like that about Bob towards baseball.
Not everyone towards every sport.
I'm not trying to be smug by suggesting that he doesn't enjoy it because he doesn't understand what he's watching.
I don't need much to pique my interest in a sport tho.
I just enjoy competition. The contest is just a formality IMO.

Yea, and grown men that buy their Heros Jersey # and wear it religiously have deep seeded issues. F that shit.
My Sportfandom only extends to my occasionally watching Boxing highlights or K1 fights solely to see people get the shit kicked out of one another. No hero worship there. I don't care who wins:I just want to see a KO and preferably Blood.

Speaking as a sports fan, men over the age of 15 do not wear sports jerseys.
Have that shit put in a frame and hang it in your office or your man-cave, and put on a shirt with a god-damned collar fro crying out loud.
And get a haircut while you're at it too, Hippie.
