For the past several years I've been hanging with the Big Rock Candy Mountain blog (http://therealbigrockcandymountain.blogspot.com/) during the Holidays for my Music fix. So far I've never been disappointed by the many great surprises and true gems presented here.

from the blog this message,

Three days in!!! We've made it thus far...So here's another round of Holiday joy for y'all! Remember, these are daily, and you never know what you're gonna get-Country, Trash, Blues, Garage, Soul, R'n'B, and who the hell can guess what else. Our goal is to make the Holiday season less painful, and provide an alternative to whatever crap you're hearing at the Gap or Starbuck's or whatnot. There are many imitators, but no one beats The Mountain, and that's a guldurned fact (cheeky bastards, aint we?)!

You can mope along with the masses or you can shake the shack with great songs like...

The Wailers: Christmas Spirit (http://www.box.net/shared/static/4ag7s5kzbe.mp3)

Bobby and Boobie: Cool, Cool Christmas (http://www.box.net/shared/static/s0sschr8oq.mp3)

Loretta Lynn: To Heck With Ole Santa Claus (http://www.box.net/shared/static/779bhxgji9.mp3)

This guy has more Christmas songs than old 'Ol St. Nick has Elves.

i totally cringed the other day when i turned on the radio to listen to the basketball game broadcast and i got smacked with the chipmunks singing one of their holiday masterpieces

i really don't care for 90% of that crap that i hear. maybe that blog will give me something to look forward to...

That's not Christmas Music. It's over 9:00 minutes long and in black & white.

My reply is this completely genius B&W performance by the MAN (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jE80W5xYbTI&feature=fvw).

You couldn't be more wrong "High Gear" is a heart warming tale of a big rig driver, high on speed, racing to deliver a desperately required consignment of candy canes…personally I can’t think of anything more christmassy...

cheeeesy (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vis_A16jfKA) not sure if it would be considered an alternative but i'd take it over Slade anyday

*warning* don't actually bother to listen to all of this, it goes very much downhill after the first ten seconds or so....about the same time the first photo comes up.

So yes I amassed and listened to 100's of Christmas Songs, watched voluminous Christmas Shows and gennerally became an obnoxious Christmas music aficionado snob.

Two of 2009's Great Christmas contributions are captured on video and I highly recommend you crank up the media player and watch these two stellar performances,

- Julian Casablancas on Jimmy Fallon "I Wish it was Christmas Today (http://www.hulu.com/watch/116937/late-night-with-jimmy-fallon-julian-casablancas---i-wish-it-was-christmas-today)" (y)

- Words cannot describe how incredible this performance is, as always Darlene Love knocks it out of the ballpark, Christmas (Please Come Home) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3loxU-lOI2g&feature=PlayList&p=05B08E45C52D075B&playnext=1&playnext_from=PL&index=99) made even more special with the soldiers talking to their loved ones between sets.
