View Full Version : Your moment of the decade

Adam

In less than 4 weeks we'll be in a new decade and I was thinking about this the other day after reading lots of commentator articles and blogs on "X of the Decade" type of stuff.

So I thought about what has been my moment of the decade and I don't think I can think of one. The death of my parents has had its biggest effect on me but I wouldn't call it a moment. And twice at both ends of the decade (2001 & 2009) I've fallen in love with the same girl deeper than I have with any1 else in my life so far, except that is not going anywhere.

So I was wondering if anyone has a defining moment, something you'll look back in 10 years time saying THAT of the noughties was the moment I'll remember for the rest of my life.

Like for the 90s for me it was putting my penis in a vagina for the first time.

Well, the cop business was quite a turning point in my life, then joining the Army and then getting this new job. I've actually been though quite a lot in the past few years and changed and grown as a person immensely. Luckily I go into the new decade feeling better about my life then I ever have before.

so how is 2010 the start of a new decade? surely it's the last year of a decade? i mean there's ten years in a decade right. surely that would normally be 1-10?? so 2011 is the first year in a new decade. yes?? am i properly stupid??

2002
2003
2004

Adam

gbsuey, technically you are correct. Its fuzzy maths really.

I should of really put. On the base ten system we use to count years, two digits out of the four we current have are changing in less than four weeks. Based from the last time this happened until now, what has been the defining moment for you?

But then I may of been called a smart arse ;)

*Moving to Bangkok was up there
*Working in a company that made Time Asia...That wasn't good ppl LOL
*Moving to Costa Rica too
*Moving back to Bangkok
*Getting Married Outlaw Josey Wells style by just buying the rings and declaring we were married myself
*Wife hitting the Exits: Man I hit the skids on that one and few of you knew it and even less would have cared....But Thanks Echewta you were a trooper that really helped me during that difficult period of my life and had sage like advise. Thanks
*Wife coming back
*Heiress sending me naked pics
*My best friend getting off the hooks for murdering his best friend at the time. LOL Nope, I'm serious!
*The time I fell in love with Mint when we were walking someplace at Ko Somei and she imitated the noise she thought chickens made...It made me larf and fall for her
*That time I peed on an English birds foot at the beach and she got all puffy about it
*Answering the door naked and challenging my missionary neighbor fisticuffs because he wanted me to turn my music down
*And plenty of moments that I keep in my Spank Bank when I choose to travel down memory lane and service myself

ive done things and been through things and experienced things that people write books about. maybe i will, when i get old and they're only memories as opposed to barely scabbed wounds.

i grew the fuck up. 9/9/9 was the day that i took charge of my future and stopped waiting for it to come to me. maybe that's the day i'll always remember as the biggest turning point in my life.

Yeah, funny that, on Earth we count the '0' years aswell!

Yeah, but only the ones that actually exist. There was no year 0; it goes from 1 BC to 1 AD with no year in between. So the first decade of the first century of the first millennium is years 1-10, and the second decade is years 11-20. Keep on counting and you end up with the first decade of the 21st century being 2001-2010.

So let's come back to this thread a year from now and see what we all think.

Check post 5, I amended the reasoning behind the thread. We are all decimal now suckers, let go of the past, let the logical new world order begin. Its the 21st Century! (thats like the future, you know)

Exactly, 1990 wasn't still the 80s.

And looking upon some of your posts, I feel somewhat insignificant! BangkokB is almost like a rockstar!

Adam
12-07-2009, 03:20 AM
I meant post 6...

And if I can get through all the things in my life that BangkokB gets though in 10 years, I'll die a fulfilled man.

the moment of the decade for me was Colbert's White House Correspondents' Dinner. I'm still amazed at how the anger at the administration was allowed to articulate itself in the belly of the beast. a great cultural, political, and comical moment.

haha, yes I might of and that was a view I had. You caught me. It actually happened this year though - but I didn't want to say that I was 29 before I broke that particular cherry.

Its pretty good though - wouldn't do it without wearing a condom however.

edit, wouldn't of been a few months though cus it was in america which I came back in June. Those damn dirty americans (I love them) :o

So much has happened over the decade thus far...

The most impactful probably being things I've talked about several times recently in some threads. Late 2007 - being homeless, having to live on couches, being moved to NorCal thanks to the help of a caring friend so I would have a place to live/get back on my feet, and finally recognizing who in my life was cancerous and had to be cut out.

That entire process turned my life upside down. But I was on a track that I didn't really like but I didn't think I could change so I figured I was destined for a mediocre life that I would just have to accept.

Now I look around at where I live, the people I'm friends with, and the man I'm with and I never thought it would EVER be this good.

So you know, hells yeah! and stuff.

thanks.

as corny as it is, I'm a prime example of "things happen for a reason". The rough parts were so bad for me it was getting to the point of suicidal. I'm grateful that I, with the help of caring friends, got through it and that I'm as happy as I am today.

nah i dont mind that plus tool is not very respectful either, i call everybody son, except my son! For some reason i have developed the nickname "bruv" for him. He's got a slightly older sister who calls him bruv and its kinda stuck.

actually i know i said 2006 was my moment but it would be when my second son was born last year, just because it was a bit frantic and he wasnt very well but he's coming on strong now.

the moment I climbed up some steep steps to a very hot attic filled with strangers and a couple of friends. march, 2007

and if I can go ahead and place too much importance (or not enough? too early to say) on my current relationship: the day we discovered we didn't want to be apart. and all that that entails.

honestly, 2000-2006 was pretty lame. well, 1990-1999 was pretty lame as well.
