FINALLuY found out what Brass Monkey is (was).

According to a friend I spent Thanksgiving with it was a nasty wine that was freely passed out at parties in the seventies.

Boys--- please comment... ADROCK? D? MCA?

Curious,
D

Nope. It's a cocktail of:

• One part dark rum
• One part vodka
• One part orange juice

It is a mixed drink. A 40 with orange juice is also called "Brass Monkey". But you could (and possibly still can) buy a pre-mixed drink called "Brass Monkey".

I'm pretty sure the Beasties were talking about the pre-mixed version, especially since they also reference thunderbird, etc.

There's also an old soul song by the band Brass Monkey called "Funky Monkey", which could be where part of the inspiration for that song came from. You never know.

They also use to come in little cans back in the day. A bit bigger then say a canned V8..

They were perfect for easily slipping in your pockets.

I used to buy it at least once a week from a ghetto fabulous liqour store in Nap-town, IN. It was in a bottle and reminded me of cheap wine with a strange lemon flavor. Not sure what the ingredients were but it wasn't that potent.

When I was young I thought the song was about a statue.

OE?

OE is Olde English malt liquor. Malt liquor usually comes in 40oz bottles which is why people call them "40s".

Brass Monkey, OE, I thought this was all common knowledge. Don't they teach you kids anything in school anymore?
