What the!?! I'm trying to find flights to Europe next year and they are double what they usually are. No matter what combo. $950 to fly to London? Suck it. $1100 to Amsterdam? Besides a global recession, is there something I'm not getting here? If someone makes a laid joke, they die.

Depends when you're trying to book. I was looking at flights to travel at beginning of August to the states next year and they was about 33% more than the end of August or mid July. Maybe you're hitting a peak period? Also you gotta remember the US$ is pretty weak compared to european currencies (recession) and there is a high chance that more taxes on flights will be introduced at some point next year to discourage binge flying (global warming).

Yeah, this is the first time in a long time when I didn't go anywhere overseas during the winter. The flights were way too expensive. Even stuff that used to be dirt cheap (flights to Amsterdam used to be $400) are out of my price range. This is supposed to be off season!

As a green party member, imo this is good news (y) Oil is still too cheap for how precious it is.

But as some1 who wants to do a lot of travelling next year (and who is a hypocrite) its a bit of a pain.

We need solar powered planes or something.

It really depends on the period of the year you're booking the flight (ie. Christmas, Easter and Summer can be very expensive) + how in advance you do the booking...a lot of planification is needed if you want to spend less...!
Good luck!:)

I also found when booking this years travel, it was cheaper to book about two weeks before. About a week before they tended to creep up again

yes, it depends when you want to go and when you book it. sometimes it is more cost effective to book way in advance but others you can get some great deals leaving it to the last couple of months before hand.

when i went to australia the first time it cost me about £1200 ($1949) return because i was scared of it going even higher so i just took the plunge. but if you wait til they (airlines, travel agencies - sign up for all their emails) do all their deals last minute it's normally about £6/700. suckage.

however the second time i went to australia i was very, very, very lucky and was one of 300 people who managed to get a special ashes results price. it cost me £219 ($355!) return! nuts! they sold out in about 2 minutes. it was pure luck of the draw. amazing.

i'm glad i live in europe. we're pretty blessed with low cost european flights.

domestic prices are way above average right now...

I've been looking at a LAX/IAH flight that has been at $450 for two weeks...

if I don't pull the trigger it's going to go up even more
