Working for the Federal government is a real world job.
Exactly. I have no problem with civil servant employees being paid properly.

What a ridiculous story. All of the professionals that I know who work for the federal government make far less than they could in private practice.

Mid 90's I think....
But that is irrelevent to the original point. This is one of the advantages of going to work for the Federal govt. Sure I won't make a ton of bonus money at the IRS or FBI but i have me garenteed raise every year.
So again working for the federal government is a real world job.

Stories like this are misleading and I hate when people mislead instead of educating. USA today puts it in the lead that people working for the federal government make $30,000 more than people in private sector but you have to look hard to see what they mean. It's an average salary. Yeah, it's no surprise that secret service agents make more than people who work at coffee shops. You're not comparing apples to apples.

Plus you get to be a cog in the machine, and that's gotta be worth something.

A CEO could just as easily shave a few million off his salary and spare hundreds of jobs...but, you also dont see that in the private sector ;)
