Anime. This is freaking just like the anime shows. But American. No wonder it has some corny elements haha:D
It's a comic book adaption.
Just so you know, it's the guy in green that's Kick-Ass.

But seriously though, I'd never thought to see the day that a small girl would be as cool as John Woo character.

This will be more enjoyable than SM3, both the Punishers, both Hulks, Superman Returns, Batman Begins, and yes the Star Wars Prequels.

So I thought this movie was freakin awesome. I think nerdy, comic book, action lovin, vulgar/perverse humor fans will enjoy it greatly.
But there is a LOT of hubbub now considering that an 11-year old girl is cursing, violent, and experiencing violence directed at her. I'm talking almost Tarantino level violence and blood in this movie. A lot of people don't like seeing an 11-year old amongst such things, even as a movie/actress, and are distressed.
Considering that it's R-rated, I think there won't be any young kids watching it (at least I freakin hope not, if parents are taking their young kid to a R-rated film, well, I don't think I need to say that doing so is ridiculous).
I don't think this is a spoiler, but just in case, I'll say spoiler:
In addition, there is a character in the film that speaks out against Hit Girl involvement in fighting crime, saying that it's wrong for her not to have a childhood and put her in danger. Although, that sentiment is not a huge focal point.
I have a little brother around Hit Girl's age but it's a movie, so it doesn't bother me. It doesn't make me mad or upset me. I am going to remind my parents that the movie is rated R and that my brother shouldn't see it for several years as it's inappropriate for his age. Then I read this article (http://insidemovies.moviefone.com/2010/04/09/kick-ass-hit-girl/) which interviewed the actress who plays Hit-Girl and it seems discussing the role with her parents helps give perspective and she also seems to have a good head on her shoulders.
That's my lengthy 2 cents.

I am suddenly very interested in this movie. For some reason I thought it was going to be a kids movie like that one about the high school for super heroes.

The kids in The Goonies were foul mouthed little bastards and that was targeted towards children whereas this isnt.
Macaulay Culkin played a murderer in The Good Son before his voice had changed.
Its not like child actors saying or doing "adult" things this is some new thing.

Did anyone see Role Models? The little kid in that swore like a freaking sailor and made tons of explicit sex jokes.

that kid ruled. Shit, the kids on The Wire sell drugs and shoot people.

Is it because it's a little girl?
I gotta say, there's a part of me that is into the idea of a little girl takin care of bidness. Not a day goes by I don't see a news story about one going missing and being found dead. It weighs on a body.

Yeah, I didn't know anything about it and got that same impression from the brief edited for TV previews I saw. But then I got a free screening pass so I went and was FLOORED! I loved it so much.

I totally agree. People are FREAKING out though it seems because of the violence level/blood. It's graphic, definitely. I think they forget though that the violence is so high it's as if it's a comic book and *gasp* that's what the hell it's based on.
I just didn't get the hubub/outcry so I posted here to see if anyone feels the way those people do, so maybe they could explain their perspective.

I am in the movies right now waiting for it to start. Nothing better to do tonight and I have a free pass so nothing to lose. I think I will enjoy it anyway.
