Anyone own own the Dr. Dre Beats Studio style headphones and listen to one or more of the Beastie Boys' albums on 'em. Paul's Boutique has always been better on headphones...
I almost threw down the $300.00 on a pair of them at Best Buy this evening...and then decided to ask around a little first. I liked the quality on demo station stuff that they had at Best Buy, but that is not really the stuff I am listening to.
The Beats headphones were impressive compared to the BOSE headphones that they wanted $134 for....I was shocked that there was such a substantial difference...
Anyone with opinions on 'em...I'm listening.

I checked them out at Guitar Center. They definitely sound amazing!
But, as a DJ they don't serve my purpose to reinvest in new headphones.
If i had money to burn to listen to records all day... I'd buy them in a cinch.

From what I've heard they are great for listening, but bad for any type of mixing as they hype certain frequencies.
Never heard them for myself though.

If you're going to spend $300 on headphones I'd go with Sennheiser, Grado, or one of the other trusted high-end headphone manufacturers (AKG is another good choice).
Bose, and Beats by Dre, are usually critisized by audiophiles, sound engineers, etc. because, while they probably sound better than what you're used to, they don't stack up well to comparably priced headphones made by other companies. In other words, a $300 pair of Grados is going to sound better to most people than the Beats. Bose and Beats spend a ton of money on marketing, and they market to average consumers who don't really have anything to compare them to. I mean, when you're used to listening to I-Pod headphones and you put on the Beats headphones OF COURSE you'll be blown away. You're comparing a $20 pair of headphones with a $300 pair. What you really need to use as a comparrison is another $300 pair of headphones. I.e. you have to compare apples to apples.
The other thing I'll say is that differnet people prefer different things so the best thing you can do is go to a high end headphone retailer with your favorite CD and do A/B comparrisons. It helps if you test using music you know well. It also helps to be able to go back and forth to see what you like about the different ones.
On the other hand, if you're trying to be the coolest kid on the block just buy Beats because nobody but musicians and audiophiles knows anything about grado/sennheiser/AKG etc. and those companies care about function and sound, not style.

i second that. these are three good brand name choices.
i've had a great experience with my Grado SR80i. i also had a fun experience visiting the factory in Brooklyn this summer, talking to Mr. Grado and watching an engineer assemble one when i picked up my customized wooden box they sell for them. Mr. Grado was sketching a headphone plug at the time. i guess that is a little esoteric too.

I'm pretty impressed with Grado. I have always thought Bose was the best around. I need some headphones and I may give Grado a shot.

They do what they were made to do; help you notice even the tiniest details in music. My friend has the in-ear headphones, and those are amazing. So the 300 dollar ones must be out of this world. For those other brands, I've never tried them myself, so I wouldn't know, but I've heard some good things about Sennheiser...
