So, my wife's friend/coworker is going back to China for a 2 week vacation and she has a little puppy. It's about 6 months old.

She wants to know if we can watch it while she's gone. My wife asked me, I've met the cute little bugger and love the hell out of it but the thing that sucks is it will have to be left in its cage for a good portion of the days that we have to work.

We don't work the same schedule. Me, for sure and without a change in schedule, I wake up at 5:20am and get home at around 3:45pm everyday and am off Saturday and Sunday.

My wife works whenever, usually after 10am and she gets home at around no earlier than 9pm.

So, from like 10am till 3:45pm or so, the poor guy will have to be in its cage. I really don't like the idea being that a puppy needs as much attention as a real baby.

Thoughts? I know for sure that after I look after him, I'll want to get a dog.

Also, god forbid this dog to go to China.:p

you could keep the puppy in your kitchen with lots of newspaper on the floor as well as puppy toys etc, and block off access to other rooms.

that's a good idea. I can open the window in the kitchen and close the door and it's a pretty big kitchen as well.

I can set my crocs in there that my wife got me for it to play with.

Yeah, bathrooms and kitchens are great places to contain a pet that might cause damage when left alone. That's what I used to do with the bunnies. They can't damage linoleum or porcelain even with pee and chewing.

A puppy might be harder to contain, though.
