I was the victim of an unprovoked assault by about 6 attackers. I had a broken collarbone at the time and they all knew it.

Regrettably, i never reported it to the police.

Three or so years later, on new years day at about 2am, two 19/20 year olds attacked a man and left him within an inch of his life in a critical condition. They they proceeded another 20 or so yards down the road and attacked someone else who was also hospitalised.

I found out through a mate what the lads names were and couldn't put a finger on who it was, then realised that one of the attackers was the same who attacked me around three years ago.

They're in court now facing charges of GBH and ABH and i only realised it was the same person yesterday. It's a surreal feeling to me...

Brief BBC article (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/staffordshire/8439528.stm) More detailed local article (http://www.expressandstar.com/2010/01/04/arrest-over-street-attack/)

I always said they'd end up in jail, which was sort of my reasoning for not reporting it. Now that it actually has, i feel like i could've prevented the attacks somehow.

lets hope they get what's coming to them. i can understand you not reporting it...but i would have wanted to exact my revenge personally! when i was attacked, i had no idea what the guy looked like,it was too quick, but i tried to find him,so my big friend could knock his teeth out for me. Yes i know two wrongs don't make a right but i was furious:mad:

don't feel bad for not reporting it either, fuckwits like that will probably never change so regardless if they'd been prosecuted for attacking you, they'd have done it again

Regrettably, i never reported it to the police.

Why didn't you report them? Were you afraid of being attacked by them again if they found out?

same sort of thing happened to me in 1993.unfortunatley in this world there's always things like this happening which is sad but clear evidence that for all the good intelligent people there's also the ones with less intelligence than a house brick.

How can you tell it's one of the same people who attacked you? Have you seen a more detailed media report? Those are pretty sketchy.

Have you thought about contacting the police now? I'd do it unless there's a really good reason not to. It would ease your mind a bit and even if you think it couldn't help now, there's a chance that a little more information about the guy's history would be helpful to them in putting together a larger picture. You can call and say "It was ages ago and I can't be sure but I thought I'd tell you just in case it's helpful . . . ." They will likely write a little note, never contact you again, and you will feel better.

I know because the guy lives about 10 minutes from me, and i know his face. then when his name was released, i facebooked it and it was him. One of the attackers has a 1 yr old son.

I'm 100% it's the same person, im just not sure what help it'll do informing the police this long after the incident. The annoying thing is that before i was attacked i was outside a fast food place after a night out so there were police around. when there were like six people squaring up to me i was like "erm, officer, these people want to kill me" and he sent them off in a different direction. obviously when the police went they just caught me up.

Their reason for starting on me was that i was at an 18th party where a fight kicked out between them and someone else, they recognised my face even though i had nothing to do with it. That was enough apparantly.

I don't know why i never reported it. It wasn't a case of being scared though, unless it was a sub-concious thing. I don't really have a good reason. I guess i just tohught it was one of those things...

I reported mine to the police and to the relevant people at my school at the time. I have no idea what became of the case but I felt much better for it.

I don't think it's too late to go in and mention it to the police.

Sorry dude, thats rough. I think you could report it now - could say fear of a counter but now you feel you could add weight to the case.

Only been attacked once myself, reported it but nothing came of it.

Me too, by three guys when I was 15. All older and bigger than me and the reason was that one of their girlfriends said that she fancied me.

The funny part was that two of the guys was from a family that everyone at school was afraid of. When my Dad and Uncle and mates went up to pay them a visit none of them daren't step out side.

When the police arrived and realised what was going on they told my father that they would drive around the block for ten minutes and asked for them not to be there when they came back.

The family were all small time crooks, burglars and bullies. I think the police had been hoping for that night for a long time.

I'm glad you posted that because I was thinking it. I wonder whether it has to do with urban v. rural or alcohol consumption or whatever.

I got jumped by like 3 kids when I was in 9th grade, but some upper classman that I knew were driving by and got out and fought them, thus 'saving' me.

My cousin caught up with one of them a month or so later and jacked him up with a flathead screw driver. Gangsta shit, nigga ....

London is the only place where someone came up to me randomly and wanted to fight me. For no other reason but walking by while he was yelling at his girlfriend.

They are probably married and have 3 kids but she loves him.

I smacked the shit out of the kid outside an applebees about 3 weeks ago for the same shit. He had to be either 19 or 20, maybe 21 the oldest, some queer slim shady wannabe. He was yelling at some furyure abortion factory and me and my old lady were staring at him. He was like 'you want some' and I just said fuck it because it had been a while.

It was over quick ....

My attack was a mugging, so a reason behind it - and I was only about 13. I wouldn't say its common. Chances of a gun here is very low, knife would be low to though a little more common but very little would be trained to use one. In america I find people a lot more friendly but also a lot easier to judge who might be insane. Here I don't think you can tell that easy because we are all so damn gloomy :(

yeah, unprovoked attacks happen over here a bit too often.

although the attackers usually invent some kind of retarded "provocation" ("you looking at me?") etc. etc. to get them started.

Rockstar are a scottish company aren't they? Scottish do often seem unnaturally aggressive. You should sue Scotland Planetary, it is ultimately their fault.

maybe you didn't report it because you felt the chances of someone actually being charged were low? when i was mugged the police were blatantly like "um, we'll be honest with you - we'll keep the case open but the chances of us finding two teens in hoodies from your description is going to be pretty slim".

i'm glad they got their comeuppance planetary. i'm sorry you had to go through that. no point in regretting things you haven't done now.

saying that, i do regret not reporting someone who sat next to me on a plane on new year and repeatedly groped me when the plane was landing so i couldn't get up or move. he was some huge fuck off russian or something, i should have told immigration he was fucking dangerous. ugh. i think it's so sad it's so common for women especially to just brush off incidents like that as "something that happens".. "what can i do? i'll just be causing a scene, blah blah blah" and i went and did exactly the same thing. :/
