I can't think of anything that contributes more to the dumbing-down of American politics. The constant need for sound bytes and pundits and blah blah blah. Nothing can ever be thoughtfully considered and responded to with deliberate examination, everyone just fires off from one comment to the next. Jesus H Christ. Gah.

the 24 hour news cycle is why i love the daily show and colbert. they're relentless to it. do you get hulu (or dailyshow.com and colbertnation.com) in china? you can watch the full episodes on there, it's a great way to not go crazy thinking about how terrible those networks are

If you be talking about the TV networks like CNN, MSNBC, FOX and such I am in complete agreement.

It's like 24 hours of CSPAN (for the record some of the dullest shit I've could ever imagine) edited down to 4 minutes, then throw in 1 minute of the 24 hour Weather channel, steal the graphics from Major League Sports and grab some sort of insane stock ticker and a half a dozen freaky looking talking heads with another 30 minutes of commercials. Call it a 24 hour news channel.

That is exactly what it's like.

Bob, the videos on those sites are U.S.-only, and I doubt China has an equivalent video service that streams Jon Stewart or Colbert.
