anyone else actually have a celebration for this? i went up to Punxsutawney once in college. we departed about 1am and it was about -10 degrees outside. people went nuts, they set off fireworks at 7am and the 3 restaurants in town were all packed. i think i got home and slept for a week afterwards.

i seemed to remember an absence of police officers that morning. maybe it was just that their 5 man department was hard to come across, but still...we had quite a few still drunk/hungover youngins with us even though they stopped allowing people to publicly drink at the event.


i wish it worked like in the movie, with the event actually in the town. instead is really is on a place called "gobblers knob". its at the top of this big hill, behind the wal-mart of course. afterwards, since it was impossible to get on a bus to get back down, there was a hoard of people just trekking it down the side of the hill. which is great fun when the ground has a solid piece of ice covering the entire thing.
