For us others out there who don't have a apple sized iWallet to pay for their phone and apps.

I really like Shazam (http://www.shazam.com/music/web/pages/android.html) - Tells you which song is playing, so great at a pub.
and
Alice (http://aliceonandroid.wordpress.com/) - a gig guide that tells you how far away gigs are and can alert you to them.

Yawn

I used Shazam on my iphone to identify Mozart's "The Abduction from the Seraglio" the 1st time he played it.

I have an app on my iphone that will tell me if anyone around me has a droid so I can humiliate them for their stupid phone choice.

still confused. But I doubt there is one android user who thinks their phone would exist without the iphone. Most peoples problem with apple is the monopoly they create, the prices they charge and the fanboy blinkered attitude that thrives amongst its disciples. I know iphone has the better apps but we all cannot afford one. Reason I went with my Hero is because it was half the price but I first looked at iphones when I reaslised a smart phone for work would be handy. I was very anti-apple but I've come round a lot to what they do/done.

But obviously I've lost my sense of humour on this one as I don't get what you're saying (assuming they are jokes).

I'm just trying to rattle your cage.

I'm sure android has more good apps like the metal detector one if you need to find a discarded android phone buried in sand.

is there an android or iphone app that tells you the location of the nearest public restroom? like the iToilet from the seinfeld reunion on curb your enthusiasm. ideally i'm looking for something like yelp, with ratings and user reviews, but for toilets. because sometimes you're out and about and you have to take a dump sharpish but you don't know where to go

There is several layer-like apps for the GPS on the phone - so there is more than one.on the android and normally there is at least 10 more for the iphone so - yes, to answer your question and they'll do many more things to. Its amazing how bleedin clever these phones are.

Layar (http://layar.com/) is one such tool which blows my mind every time I use it - but I seldom do because I am normally know where I am.

"Gmote" allows you to access files on your computer from your phone.
So I can play any song in my library on my phone without storing any files on it whatsoever.

Sportstap is great for keeping up with scores of the local HS games.

it's not that it happens particularly often, it's that on the rare occasion that it does happen i'm paranoid about it for a long time afterwards. i think it all began when i took the SATs, and i know i've told this story before, but about 5 minutes in my stomach starts rumbling and sure enough i've got some pretty urgent diarrhea but you literally cannot leave the room without forfeiting your test results so i just have to sit there, taking the SAT and dealing with my violent diarrhea. ever since then i've never been able to leave the house without thinking about my bowels. it's one of several reasons why i'm reluctant to travel long distances

like i said, i don't think i have particularly faulty bowels or anything it's just that every time i leave the house i'm scared to death that i'm going to have the runs and be stranded

i'll never understand why people enjoy traveling to countries that give you traveler's diarrhea (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Travelers_Diarrhea). i don't care how fascinating the culture is or how beautiful the landscape is, that sounds like a goddamn nightmare

I like that my android, on t-mobile, has a keyboard. Then with 3G I can browse the web easily. I hate typing via screen. Viva la keyboard. That's all I ever really cared about.

my droid is my significant other. it pays the most attention to me.

my fav. apps... the green tree one that does nothing. fucking awesome.
the iheartradio app is cool if you're connected to wifi. i use the music player all the time too, cause i just started putting my music into my droid instead of the ipod. i have the capacity for it, so why not. i kinda wanna sell my ipod, it's become useless to me.
hmmm... also i have a cool alarm that wakes me up with "mark on the bus"
google skymap is awesome. and yes, having a keyboard is so important. i get annoyed when my fingers just arent accurate enough.

^google skymap is beyond genius. Its been too cold on any clear night to take it somewhere dark and use it.

My friend searched for his iphone but couldn't find it but I am sure it must be available for them.

I've been meaning to update my OS to Andriod 2.0 (well it seems 2.2 is out now) but I haven't yet.

But I will.

For me the Iphone equals letting someone else decide what I do with my quite expensive phone and Android equals being able to do anything I want but having someone look over my shoulder while I do it.

I want a pretty phone but I'd feel dirty getting either of those :(

Bit late to answer, but yes, as well as Layar Ive got an app called ToiletMate which does exactly what you said. It also tells you how long it will take you to get to the nearest toilet if you walk, drive or catch a bus.

Not sure that if you're needing to crap really bad that getting on a bus would be the best idea.

Google Goggles is a nice party piece. Take a picture of something, like a beer bottle, and it googles it for you. Pretty impressive, but kind of useless at the moment. I can see great uses for it for translating signs/menues etc. when abroad.

Layar is a good augmented reality app. Select "train stations" then point it round the place, and it layers over the screen where the stations are.

doubleTwist music player is a music. Mimics iTunes music management exactly so if you are coming from an iPod its handy.

Boring techy ones: Advanced App Killer, lets you find out whats running and zap them to save battery/memory.

Over all the app market is worse then the iPhones, but i'm seeing improvement. Some apps just arn't up to scratch with their iPhone equivalent. The Facebook App for instance was miles behind its iPhone equivalent, but now it has almost caught up.

As regards iOS v Android. I can see the appeal/advantages of both ideologies. iPhone is locked down, but with that comes non-fragmentation and better quality control. Plus its where the money is so more/better apps being developed (for now). With Android i can do what I like, but this comes with the cost of carrier interferences / manufacturer interference / poor-possibly dangerous apps.

End of the day, arguing over what is the better mobile phone, though, is a waste of precious time.

Thanks for bumping upp this thread! Just got myself an android-phone (HTC) for the weekend and want some good apps. My friend's daughter's husband showed me that skymap and I'd really want that. On his old phone he had "recognize the song" and I really. think it would be handy. A separare keyboard would've been nice or I need sharper nails, keep hitting wrong all the time. Guess it'll take a while to get used, the most advanced on my old phone was a torch....
