I'm by no means a fan of the original, so I'm not offended by the actual idea of current artists doing and updated version of the song, but seriously, who's idea was it to get a bunch of non-singing rappers, some fly by night teen pop stars and Tony Bennett (aka the second greatest male contemporary vocalist of all time) in a room together to re-record this (http://www.youheardthatnew.com/2010/02/02/video-we-are-the-world-remake/) saccharine 80s vomitfest? Sadly, Celine Dion's presence is about the only thing that makes even a little sense here.

The lineup in the original puts the remake lineup to shame.

I wonder if this counts as Community Service for some of the performers

Simon Cunt Cowell has done the same in the UK dragging a huuuuuuge heap of cunts to sing R.E.M.'s "Everybody Hurts" which makes you think...."What a pile of publicity seeking cunts from the planet cunt! "

So,Instead of multi millionaire Simon Cunt Cowell just giving money from his own pocket he has to torture the innocent eardrums of decent people.

what a cunt.

Wow (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Glny4jSciVI&feature=player_embedded#)

I could have sworn that Michael Jackson died, but in a way I'm glad they didn't have some d-bag like Usher or Chris Brown singing his parts. I'm also pretty sure that the original was a hell of a lot shorter. But then, the original didn't have a cacophony of sick ass autotune followed by a brilliant display of emceeing in the middle.

Nope. It was long as fuck too.

It only seems longer. According to itunes, the original was 11 seconds longer than the Haiti version. I have always hated that fucking we are the world bullshit. When it was released, there was an hour long documentary that went with it -- narrated by Jane Fonda if memory serves -- describing in detail how awesome the main guys were. It just occurred to me that maybe that was when I parted ways with Springsteen. I didn't like Born in the USA or that tour but maybe it was We are the World that sealed the deal. What a revolting spectacle. What a revolting year. It took Springsteen two decades to recover.

Steve Van Zandt should be the only musician allowed to do charity singles. I suppose that his was about raising awareness rather than money though.

i laughed at the autotune shit.

Man is autotune just a fad for musicians or is this shit here to stay forever?

it's not a fad - it's a way for bad singers to "sound" better when in reality they sound like a fucking speak and spell

autotune - making shitty singers sound like shitty robot singers

I knew there was going to be a verse in there somewhere and that somehow Kanye would get some solo lines. Why was Wyclef screeching like that?

And was that Jeff Bridges in there?

err..its about not committing suicide, bit of a difference but still bad song choice not because of subject matter but because the original is untouchable. Cowell thinks nothing is sacred tho'.

Oh my god.... I just watched it online.... This was garbage. All they did was gather the most popular untalented musicians and mix them with some older talented artists and call it We Are The World.... Why would they have let anyone use autotune? lol, Lil Wayne's part was unspeakably hilarious and garbagy. Thumbs up for this thread.

I always liked the hook on We Are The World, but this is pretty bad.

The Rapper's Chorus is way worse than I imagined.
