I regularly listen to the Guardian's Football Weekly and Film Weekly, Fighting Talk on the BBC and also the BS Report and NBA Today, both on ESPN.

all of them vary in quality depending on what they're discussing, but usually they're decent.

anyone else?

listened to some of an episode earlier on today. a cool piece on people who go to storage space auctions and bid with the hope that something worthwhile might lie under the stacks of porn and old golf clubs.

I haven't listened to it much, but I know people who love it.

also, that radio station's blog has a lot of neat stuff on it.

The most awkward thing I have ever listened to on the airwaves and yes THERE IS VIDEO OF IT! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IJWS6qyy7bw)

Billy Bob's band got straight booed off stage at his concert the next night (In Toronto I believe) as a result of the bad press he received after this interview aired. He canceled the rest of his bands Canadian dates too.

Not that you didnt think he was a douchebag before this, here is the best proof yet. The seven minute mark on its just plain amazing, you almost wish it was staged.

I listen to Jian Gomeshi's show Q on cbc radio every single day (along with ALOT of other fans nation-wide), yes he can be a bit much sometimes but Bob dylan you aint Billy Bob so be appreciative of any press your band gets you fuck.

I'm now listening to Richard Herring's 'As It Occurs To Me' (or AIOTM).
He decided to do a live 45 minute theatre show every week and record it as podcasts. It's VERY funny, because Richard Herring is a strange man.

I'm so stoked they've picked it up on NPR!

It can be a little Canadian-centric at times, but that is sort of the fun of it.

I bet Billy Bob didn't like him just because he is of Iranian descent!

comedy death ray radio is a really hilarious comedy podcast. they do about one a week, the shows are about an hour long. it's almost too funny to listen to at work, some of the stuff makes me crack up and if i had to try and stifle a laugh i'd look like a lunatic.

it's hosted by scott aukerman (writer and occasional actor on mr. show) and it's all about various comedians and actors (some quite famous) coming on the show and talking and being funny. sometimes comedians will do impressions or characters that are fucking hilarious (paul f. tompkins does a great ice-t and an amazing andrew lloyd webber). it's a lot of sort of improv type stuff, it's really good.

here's a sample (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XFyM2i3vhys)

the podcasts are all up on itunes - i would say that a good one to start with would be either episode 31 (it's very long but worth it for james adomian's huell howser impression if nothing else) or bonus episode 2 (it's a show in front of an audience which is a little different but it has paul f. tompkins' andrew lloyd webber which is just magnificent)

Ricky Gervais seems an obvious one?

Yeah, first series of those shows were classic, got a bit too mean after a while though. Ricky was only shouting at Karl for being a fucking idiot.

I have 83 Adam & Joe podcasts and 106 Collings & Herrin ones and the idiotic banter cracks me up.
The C&H one is very Derek & Clive'ish, whereas A&J are a lot friendlier.
Friendlier, but a lot sillier. I love their Song Wars songs and Text The Nation (including awesome jingles).

I often listen to the shows while on my bike or on the bus and I regularly burst out laughing in public. Very embarrassing.

I've been on a lot of road trips this past year and I'm practically running out of podcasts to pass the time, so let's revive this thread!

Current Favorites:

Snap Judgement (http://snapjudgment.org/)
A less nasally version of This American Life.

Caustic Soda (http://www.causticsodapodcast.com/)
A couple of Vancouver boys that have perfected the combination of funny/educational.

The Nerdist (http://www.nerdist.com/podcast/nerdist/)
Comedy Bang Bang's nerdy younger brother(s).

Wiretap (http://www.cbc.ca/wiretap/)
Goldstein isn't everyone's cup of tea but he did get his start on This American Life and his show is definitely unique.

Scott Free (http://scottfreepodcast.com/)
Scott Thompson does a podcast, and yes, it's hilarious and dirty.

Radio Lab (http://www.radiolab.org/)
I bring up things that I've learned from this show waaaay to often in conversations with people, it's that good.

i'm still mostly a fan of comedy podcasts

comedy death ray radio is now called "comedy bang bang" which is a dumber name but the podcast is still really good and usually my favorite. they're currently touring with their live show, which came to boston last night and i saw it and it was great

it's also a tv show which i haven't seen yet, but here's another clip of the podcast because i notice that the last one i posted was taken down http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=er3HEY3xYqs

and if you liked that here's another one which is my favorite moment from the podcast so far but it's 25 minutes long and takes a while to really take off so i'm posting it second http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KJtULGvr-0s

my second favorite podcast is The Bugle, which is a british comedy podcast with john oliver (of daily show fame) and andy zaltzman (who i don't know from anything else but he's also hilarious). it's mostly a sort of riff on current events, which i realize isn't the best selling point, but i promise the two of them are very funny about it and they have a great chemistry together which makes the podcast a joy to listen to

here's a clip of andy making dog puns while john oliver groans http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pxiAe3ULuxI

if that was too base, here's a bit that's more sophisticated and more indicative of what the meat & potatoes of the podcast's like (though more of a brain laugh than a gut laugh so i'm posting it second) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7sscdAG3QoY

i also enjoy improv 4 humans, which is a podcast with matt besser (of upright citizens brigade fame) and 3 guests doing improv scenes together. i recommend it if you like improv or if you don't know anything about improv and would like to find out if you like it. if you know that you definitely don't like improv then you probably won't like it

those are the three that i regularly look forward to every week

Q pretty much is my favorite radio show, and yeah, Jian is a standup guy.

Ha! This thread is why I started listening to Q. I like the interviews with musicians. He can get something decent out of someone who is usually a pest and terrible interview. Maybe because he's so nice?

I download tons of podcasts, though most get deleted without a listen. I listen to most of the WTFs, but I usually skip the first 10 minutes. I've tried most of the public radio related podcasts at some point. I stuck with the obvious ones -- Fresh Air, All Songs Considered, the concerts.

Most podcasts are good for a short while but then they get old. I listened to several episodes of Mike and Tom Eat Snacks without realizing who Mike and Tom were. :o I still listen now and then and it's super stupid but it can help my morning commute.

I also listen to classes sometimes. If anyone knows of an interesting class to listen to, please let me know. I like history best but I can branch out.

Oh yeah, I didn't actually list it but my hubby and I listen to every single episode of Comedy Bang Bang. We always try to show it to friends and a lot of them don't get it, especially the "special guests", and we totally judge them harshly based on their reaction to this podcast!!!!
Adam Scott is a god when it comes to being a pod-cast guest. A GOD.

The Bugle is good too, sometimes too British-centric for me but that's cool. I mainly enjoy the huge amount of giggling in it!

I've tried WTF and given up. Maybe I should take your advice and skip the first 10 minutes because I pretty much hate Marc Maron's voice.

I also listen to NPR's fresh air but I gotta say, Jian and Q has it beat. They need to replace Terry Gross soon because she is becoming way too out of touch.

If you want history then I suggest Memory Palace (http://thememorypalace.us/)
The pieces are extremely short but they are so well done they are basically pieces of art. I always feel extremely melancholy, but in a pleasing manner, after listening to episodes.

Love+Radio (http://loveandradio.org/) tells some extremely non-mainstream stories and can be excellent at times but I find their post-editing, sound effect additions etc really annoying at times and can almost ruin the final product in certain episodes.

Oh and The Moth (http://themoth.org/) is good too. It can be hit or miss and they have a lot of celebrities on it as well. I don't enjoy it where it almost sounds like the person is reading from a page instead of being fully present and telling the story, ah well.

yeah, adam scott is the best guest. he has a completely perfect deadpan delivery, i don't know how he manages it with the wacky bits he gets into

yeah it can definitely get very british to the point where i don't really know what they're talking about sometimes, but i just kind of give them the benefit of the doubt and assume that they're still being funny. it really is the giggling that sells it.

I've tried WTF and given up. Maybe I should take your advice and skip the first 10 minutes because I pretty much hate Marc Maron's voice.

definitely skip the first 10 minutes (or however many it takes until you start hearing a second voice). he's actually a really good interviewer--knows how to ask the right questions, then shut his mouth and let the guest be the focus of the show. but the long intro monologue is super long and unbearable. skip that shit, you're not missing out on anything

Most of the stuff on the Nerdist Network is solid.

If you have any attachment to Kevin Smith he's got a tonne of podcast on his network that are hilarious and juvenile. Jay and Silent Bob Get Old is pretty good for low brow humour.

If you're in to pro wrestling, The Art of Wrestling by Colt Cabana is very insightful.

i started listening to "stuff you missed in history class" which is pretty good. it's exactly what it sounds like--the two hosts talk about little factoids from history (either lesser-known subjects, or lesser-known aspects about well-known subjects) in an enjoyable and accessible manner. you learn shit, you get engaged, and it's usually under 30 minutes. they apparently post a new one every couple of days

i also started listening to radiolab but i think you guys already covered that. but it's great too!

Do we need a "What are you listening to on NPR" thread?

Here's (http://www.nybooks.com/articles/archives/2010/nov/11/all-programs-considered/?pagination=false) a New York Review of Books article by Bill McKibben about NPR. It's in the NYRoB, so you know it will take you 20 minutes to read, but I thought it was interesting, especially bits about the future of public radio and the differentiation of stations that play out-of-touch standards (Car Talk, Morning Edition) and more hip stations playing Sound Opinions and The Takeaway.

My local NPR station, WDET Detroit, also picked up Q. I didn't like it at first, partly because it replaced the Michael Eric Dyson Show, but it's grown on me. I would rather listen to it than Fresh Air. I like that the show plays music, and I feel a little bit international listening.

I like This American Life more than Radiolab. I heard the "Exploiting Loopholes" (my title) episode of This American Life yesterday and it was the kind of episode that I planned my driving around; I stopped to buy gas so I could hear the end of the episode, and ran inside the gas station so I wouldn't miss anything. Radiolab seems like some sort of knock-off, and the host Robert sounds classic NPR voice and way too much like one of the Tappet Brothers from Car Talk.

I used to love The Story with Dick Gordon , again because it has some long-form storytelling and interviewing. But I heard an episode recently and nearly couldn't listen, Gordon's questions almost seemed insensitive and broad, and you can tell the interviews are heavily edited.

The Moth is cool because they have a regular event in Detroit. Sometimes the stories can be a little over-the-top, but I've heard some amazing things on that program. I've heard The Dinner Party mentioned a lot as a popular humor podcast, but never listened to it myself.

Most of the ones I listen to regularly have already been mentioned - the NPR ones (Wait Wait Don't Tell Me, This American Life & Snap Judgement) as well as Stuff You Missed in History Class (along with, How Stuff Works.)

Oh No Ross & Carrie is another one I tune into now and again, it features this guy and gal (not a couple) who try out different 'alternative' treatments or visit psychics and fringe groups or other sort of "bad science" kind of things and then report back. I like it because it's not mean-spirited and although they are out to de-bunk some of the claims, they're not trying to catch people out per se or make fun of them for what they believe or make them look stupid. For example they did a bit on colonic irrigation and they were talking about how the young woman at the place was just so sweet and sincere and nice, they felt really badly about having to talk about the fact that the science behind it is literally and figuratively completely shit.

One I've gotten into recently is Reasonable Doubts, which describes itself as "Your Skeptical Guide to Religion". There are a few different hosts, some are easier to listen to than others but they are all pretty interesting.
