Recently I requested the application details for a job (pretty close to being my ideal job at this point in life) via email as it was advertised on the word wide web.

The response came attached with application form and person specification within about 30 minutes and the HR lady who sent the email said that application could be returned via email.

Today I emailed the completed application form, along with my CV and letter of application to the aforementioned HR lady at about 10.50am. I have not had any response and I am now wondering whether it sent properly at all.

My question is: what is the etiquette in this situation? Do I email and say straight up "did you get my email? Let me know kthnx." Or perhaps I resend the attachments and say "I'm not sure if this reached you I was having problems with my internets." I don't want to seem like a dunce who can't work computers and sends stupid amounts of email - but I would have thought a simple "Thankyou for your application" would have been returned to me, especially considering the swift response upon my initial enquiry - and the subsequent unprompted sending of amended details midweek.

if nothing bouced back and you followed directions, do nothing

at most, resend your email exactly the same way if you want to nudge her. but what you've heard from the woman was probably automated anyway so you will probably just end up making yourself more anxious by doing that and getting no response again, so do nothing

they don't always write you back, it doesn't mean anything. sometimes they don't even bother to tell you you didn't get the job, you just have to infer it from silence

For important stuff I always use the "request read receipt email" option.

I think i'd send an enquiry email on monday morning. but i dont know the circumstances, if there's a chance the job will be filled before then, then i'd send one tomorrow afternoon, giving them chance to send a confirmation tomorrow morning.

tis friday you know. could be that she was out of the office, left early, or could care fuck all about reading an application before the weekend.

I always ask because it comes across as you being so interested in the job that you want to ensure they received your package (lol). Following up is seen as proactive and responsible and all those other crappy buzzwords.

Just a simple "I just thought I'd follow up to make sure you received my application package and all of its contents" would work.
