Flood water from the river in the nearest town to the site has caused damage to the train tracks which bring tourists in as the terrain doesn't allow for any roads.
The flood damage could take eight weeks to repair. In the meantime, the site is essentially cut off from the outside world.
Machu Picchu itself is unharmed as it sits high in the mountains away from the river flooding.
