I'm going to be doing my first mini Triathlon in the Fall. Anyone else have experience in this sport?
Expect three disciplines. ;)

1/2 mile swim, 18 mile bike, and 4 mile run. I've done the run part the last two years with a team but its just time to step up and give in a whirl.
Running, easy. Swimming, I can work on that. Biking? I'm not a fan of my knee meeting the road. I like my skin.

Awesome, do you have any bbmbers nearby who could make a cheerleading team, or perhaps Paul Jones could follow in his car with GO ECHEWTA flags??
I'm so gonna start running.....soon. I'm just worried i'll literally do the block and vomit, for the first two weeks.

definitely sounds doable. i'd probably have the most issues with the swimming part. it would wear me out a good bit so the other parts were that much harder.
i'd imagine that this is one time cross training is pretty important...

Yea, our company has a team of a few hundred people and they have weekly trainings, including a "brick" training. Biking and then running to get you use to the fact that you don't get to rest when you are done with one section. I'm getting pretty stoked about it.
Hieress, how dare you assume i'll be giving up chocolate.

No actually I don't have any experience with a triathlon. I do SPORTS. Not try to be the best at exercising. (http://www.terezowens.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/03/kenny-powers-returns.jpg)

I'll bike with you! I don't want to be in water that you're in, but running also sounds good.

Thats right, you guys live right up the street. We can hop on our bikes and chase food trucks in the valley.

You will but it'll be awesome. I love running now - I used to think it was the stupidest shit ever until I did it a couple of times and now I look forward to it more than most other things with my clothes on.

Yep, i can't wait to get going really, i was good at running as a kid, then lost interest, but i would run instead of walk if i could. Will invest in some decent running shoes and headphones too....RUN FOREST RUN!!
i was getting very into the running thing until winter, then it got too cold and dark and snowy and icy and i pussed out :(. i haven't run since december 14th (i know that because i did a 5k that day and the tag is still on my shoe). i'm doing another one on march 14th but i'm worried i've been sedentary too long and i have to start from scratch. i dunno. we'll see

I am awful at swimming, I couldn't swim that distance. The run i'd manage with some ease, i'd estimate under 25 minutes(?) for me, and I am decent at cycling also. If I didn't have to swim, it'd almost sound like something I would attempt.
I love swimming, I can do it for miles without much of a sweat. Cycling ok and running is a little less ok but getting better. But doing them all in one day - nah.

How could you tell? eeheheheheeeee
Damajaaaaaa, you look like you have no body fat, which is probably why you probably have issues with swimming,
my significant other is the most in shape person ever and hasn't an inch of body fat so he cant swim worth shit. It tires him the fuck out because it takes so much effort and energy to keep his body buoyant for even a short amount of time.
I've seen him run miles and miles @ the gym or play 4 round robin soccer games in one day but never have I seen him pant or gasp so hard as after just trying to tread water for a few minutes.
What you need to do start spending hours a day in cold water so you begin building up your helpful blubber layer, DO IT
I, on the other hand, float like a boat

I think you have a point. We have swimming sessions sometimes, and it's mostly the slimmer people who have problems. Where as the fat girls who can't even run a mile swim like mutherfuckers. It's kind of annoying being as fit as I am, yet using huge effort to swim not very fast or far.
Not calling anyone here who is a good swimmer fat, but it is an observation I (and other crappy swimmers) have made about other people in our squad.

if you had boobs you'd probably have no problem floating.

i got plenty o'blubber, but i cant swim well AT ALL. swimming any significant distance is incredibly difficult for me for some annoying little reason. im pretty sure i gots me some lead boobs. this is the reason i havent attempted tri's, cause i got the running and the cycling down.
That makes sense that. I'm pretty fat and can out swim most people.
When I was about 16, I was about 10 seconds off the Olympic trials qualifying time for the 400m (or was it 800m, eh). There was no way I could of made up those 10 seconds - that was my best and I was spent but it was just to see who could aim for that at the swimming club. I preferred drinking and drugs. Anyway, I was fat then to (y)
