Will it help the Chileans, if I drink more of their wine?
I don't mean that to sounds callous; I get that there's real human suffering. I just mean, like, I buy a fair amount of wine. So if a substantial number of wine-drinking types of folk like me made an effort to focus on purchasing Chilean ones for a few months, will that help contribute to any economic recovery?
Just wondering. Because I am prepared to make that sacrifice.

But if that all gets sold, they will have to import more, right?
I'm just trying to be helpful here.

unless your local wine proprietor runs out of chilean wine and thinks, well its going to be fucking ages before i can get any of that, lets go australian or whatever and then how could you live with yourself peachy?:D I'm not saying it would be ages but your wine shop might look elsewhere.

When tragedy struck Haiti, I'll admit, it didn't occur to me to try to start supporting their economy. And while I do realize Haiti does produce wine, I'm not sure I'm willing to go there.

That's not true. I'm also down to help in any way should shit go down anywhere along the French Riviera. I would be there. So long as adequate lodging and transportation can be provided.

Dunno. The thing is, Chile and China relatively recently revised their trade agreement, specifically to open up the Chinese market for Chilean wines. So now you can find Chilean wines in the shops that have the info on the label in Chinese. Used to be they just had the usual bottle labesl (English/Spanish) with a separate, locally printed label slapped over it on the back. Now they are clearly using purpose-produced ones, which indicates they are clearly focused on growing their China market.

I can't wait until Ireland has an earthquake so I have an excuse to buy more Guinness..
JOKING!!!!!! I'm part Irish and have friends there... I think you're money would be better spent with some sort of world wide fund, like the Red Cross or something rather than trying to pump up the wine makers..
