sucks. trite and opportunist. boring and condescending.
but I'm kinda curious about why I think that, but so many people think it's the best thing since sliced bread.
thoughts?

I think there's a thread called 'What was the last movie you watched?'
But I thought it was ok. Not best picture-worthy.

George Clooney gets on my nerves.
Did you hear that, George?
On my mother fuckin' nerves!

supposedly it reflects a certain type of culture that exists in today's capitalistic society and I think in this it succeeds, but the problem is there's no analysis. so the film ends up showing something, but saying nothing.

I've read articles like that in various periodicals and magazines. I'm never certain whether I like it or am bothered by it. I think I'm more bothered by it more often than not.
I have not seen this movie though. Just commenting on the " showing something, but saying nothing" element. :p

I left the movie theatre thinking "that's it?" and wanting my $10.75 back.

I'm a fan of movies without closures or happy endings. I enjoyed it.
You got a snap shot of a characters life, him almost changing it, itfailing and going back to the way it was.

I thought it was good, but not Oscar worthy. I'm not a huge Clooney fan. He tends to play the same sort of character in every movie.

Probably my second favorite movie from last year. I liked the fact that the movie ends with the implication that he's got to reap what he's sown. Sooften, the protaganist has a big revelation, and it's as if it's smoothe sailing then on. Not this time.

I agree with A-Z, I thought it was quite and good and frankly I think the line of thought that it "says nothing" is overly harsh and not true. I thought it was a pretty good (and fairly damning) portrayal of the soulessness of big time corporate culture and what a lifetime of that life can reap.
Also the tradition male/female dynamic was reversed brilliantly with George Clooney and Vera Farmiga's character in a way that was fairly unexpected and ultimately fairly enlightening.
I'm a little amazed at the things people are saying in this thread.
I think Reitman makes great movies although I have to admit I find him unbelievably morally ambiguous (which I think means I've decided hes a libertarian)
Whatever to each there own, but I thought it was among the best flicks of the year.
