View Full Version : So, a $10 tax for foreigners to enter america...

I think it will backfire, taxing us to enter the country to fund advertisements for people to come to the country since so many have stopped coming - I get it, clever but wrong. Its because there is already too many freakin hoops to jump through to get in already and I'm a white middle class British male, it should be easy - making another will only put more people off trying to visit.

And it will get other countries of thinking of doing the same which I wouldn't be surprised if its just American tourists they charge to start off with - bad move by Obama.

€10 to enter the EU, a further €1 for each country - AMERICAN TOURISTS ONLY
- the signs will say.

I dunno. I'm just venting as I'm not having a good night, this just seems cynical.

Big Whoop.

They make you pay more than that to leave New Zealand.

those taxes and exit fees are normally included in your ticket - this you have to pay for just applying to get in.

I know its nothing, its just a slippery slope. The tone was a little more harsh than intended reading it back. It more of a comment saying it'll backfire rather than a full blown rant.

we should be paying tourists to come here at this point.

I love america and people will come back once it gets it rep back up and it stops being so paranoid.

Seems to me it has more different landscape, cultures and things to do in which you can either hit a desert or the greatest cities in the world that are more accessible than any other large land mass . Shouldn't need to advertise, but people mistrust the experience they may have there.

And as a british male, oh man - the women! Gotta love the women

are you saying just to visit or to have an extended/permanent stay?

Either. You know that certificate you apply for online for a right to enter - that now costs $10.

Any other country in the world you can generally walk into with a passport assuming no exceptions are listed or your country hasn't unduly pissed it off and visa-versa and temp restrictions are in place and customs will sort it. Except America - Non-american passport holders have to fill out a quick form online with you passport number, address of your first nights stay and a few other details - quick, cheap site but you have to do it before you enter the country or they won't even entertain you at customs. Now that will be soon $10,

Can't remember it exactly, thinks its run by these http://www.cbp.gov/ and without getting my passport out to see my last print out of it I dunno exact link but your airline links it anyway when you buy tickets.

Like I say, its all quick and cheap but its just another thing to do.
