Off The Grid is by far the best track on TMU. Actually, I'm glad this thread got started cuz I've been listening to TMU like crazy lately. Awesome, awesome record.

This.

Nothing really tops In 3's for me, though, as far as the instrumentals go. But that could be more due to 18 yrs of conditioning.

It's funny how bboys albums take a few years to truly sink in and settle themselves. While I've always viewed each of their albums in a favorable light from the start, I don't seem to fully appreciate them until a few years down the line. Like a second wind of sorts, wherein I like and enjoy a record, but then hear it in a new light a span later and learn to love it.

TMU is still quite a struggle as an album. But Off the Grid is top 10 beastie boys song material for me.

The Video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L8uQXtpUxok) gave me retardedly high expectations of the album.

I remember when the Kid use to be underwhelmed with TMU.
Now you're singing it's praises?

Glad to hear you've come 'round.

BBoys albums age gracefully, like a fine wine, the more they mature the more fully one can appreciate the full depth & flavour. (y)

I agree though, Off the Grid is the best track on TMU & one of their best over all.

To be fair, I always liked the songs I listed in the thread. The Mix Up is my only way to them.

I used Off the Grid for a video segment in a snowmobiling video I created of me and a few riding buddies of mine. I had to chop up the tune for the sake of time but worked out pretty good. Its a sort of slideshow/video compilation.

could'nt agree more.
I liked the mix up when it came out,but it had no rappin and that pissed me off.
now i've been listening to the mix up and loving it(not just cos its the beastie boys)i find it best to listen to it when i'm doing something, like backgroud music.

I loved it when they opened with Off the Grid at Santa Barbara in 07. Definitely my favorite track of TMU. Hope that they eventually release the Gala Event shows they documented on DVD.

Perhaps some talented überfan could lay some suitable acapellas from their other songs on top of these instrumentals, if anyone has a minute.

I'm happy Off the Grid got a thread...when i heard it the first time i was a bit speechless. And it was one of the stand-out moments from both the shows they did at Bestival 07. I love the whole album but Off the grid is just awesome(y)

Incorrect

Compelling argument. On paper it's a dope album, because we're in Beastie General, but for me a couple too many of the songs sound like they came from identical sessions and it loses its character. Instrumental albums are always a challenge, anyway. Maybe a few shifting moods, something peppered between the better cuts that actually sounded like the post-punk and rock sounds we were lead to expect, that would have been nice.

Doesn't matter though. My wife and I made rissoles and shepherds pie to The Mix Up last weekend, an it was good. (y)
