Why do you insist on saying "could care less" and "could give a shit"? It makes absolutely no sense.
The correct term is "I couldn't care less", as in, I care so little that caring any less would be impossible. Saying "I could care less" implies that you do care, and significantly enough that you could even care slightly less and you'd still care a lot.
Also, "I could give a shit"??? You're supposed to say "I couldn't give a shit" as in you are so indifferent to something you wouldn't even give it your shit, something that you are going to flush away anyway. Saying "I could give a shit" makes you sound like some faeces-fetish* weirdo offering their excrement around to causes they deem worthy.
These two phrases are a prime example of what is wrong with (most) Americans. You don't even think about what comes out of your fat pale mouths, you just go around accepting nonsensical turns of phrase into your vocabularies without considering what they mean or why you're saying them.
The first person to reply saying they "could care less" about this whole thing wins the Unfunny Douchebag of the Year award.
ps
Some Americans are awesome and know how to speak. Very few, but some.
* no, it's not spelt "feces" you tards

They regard saying 'could care less' as sarcastic as in 'I could care less... if I tried'. Although that makes no sense, and saying 'I couldn't care less' is about as sarcastic as you can get in the first place.
It reeks of Borat - this suit is black NOT!

I could care less.
Where's my award? I'll set it right next to my Poster of the Year Award. I just love trophies. I wonder if it is a statue of KofR? I wonder which is taller, the trophy or KofR?

I think it's rather interesting that Pad should be the one to open a thread about semantics.
I agree with the 'could care less' thing, though. English isn't my first language and I don't speak it on a daily basis, yet even I understand that 'could care less' is just wrong.
Silly Americans. Having said that, many Brits deez daze ahnt 2 gud at spellin eitha, innit?

I think I started a few 'americans are stupid' threads around the turn of the century. I never really gave any examples though. I simply waited for responses.
Problem with americans is that they are so exposed and the really stupid ones seem more stupid than the overall intelligence of the country and if one or two get high profiles then it just brings the whole perceptive average down for the place. While the intelligent ones aren't the ones to try and shout and scream for attention.
I suppose it happens everywhere but america is the king of over-exposed so they reap what they sow really.

Theres nothing wrong with it, its meant to be sarcastic. As in, they couldn't care less but they are being sarcastic and saying they could. I'm an american and that's the only way I've ever heard it used. pip pip.
British just don't get sarcasm.

I've never heard it said in a sarcastic way other than when people start defending it and posting audio files.
