make sure you put the words "SHHHH" and "SURPRISE" in the event name so that people don't go to the desk of the person to be surprised and say they'll totally go to his birthday party.

This is why I don't trust facebook with surprise parties. People don't always read the event details, or the numerous times I wrote "if you say anything about this I will kill you mercilessly," so it's hard to keep it a secret. Damnit. :(

the other day I was on facebook, and i saw:

"Person X is attending "Person Y's Surprise Party"

How could that possibly work? Unless Person Y doesn't use facebook?

You can make the event itself secret, so it doesn't show up in newsfeeds. Like I did.

I have planned many surprise parties...but no one has ever planned one for me. :(

maybe it was such a surprise that you never actually found out about it

some friends tried to plan a surprise party for me once but one of my less clueful friends ruined it by suggesting that i keep my calendar open on my birthday for a reason that he couldn't tell me

still, it was a nice party

I hate surprise parties. I feel a compulsion to tell the person -- it's always in my head when I see the person until the damn thing is over -- it's like my urge to scream in church.

documad must be baptist?

i'm not too crazy about surprise parties, but nobody ever asks me about "why is everyone being so strange", so my role is usually easy. i'm good at keeping the secret
