View Full Version : I'm old and/or grow up

Maybe I'm just an old lady/party pooper, but fuck me. I want to be responsible.
I have a few friends that go out almost every night of the week. When I was 18-23ish I was all about it. I had a job that was flexible and I could sleep in before coming in, work, go out, rinse and repeat.
Now? I have a really demanding job that starts kind of early and I prefer to get 8 hours of sleep so I can actually function and get things done. I DO stay out late during the week sometimes, and pay for it dearly, but I keep it to a minimum. Maybe once or twice every few weeks.
I have a few friends who are around my age or OLDER that go out late during EVERY night of the week. Good for them I guess if they can do it, but I can't handle it.And they know that. They didn't even know me back when I could handle that kind of partying. Yet I am getting heckled/complaints that I don't go and it's to the point where it's not cute anymore. They already know the answer, so if I say no thanks and they heckle me more and more it's just getting old (like me, har har). I am two seconds away from yelling "GROW UP" and/or punching someone in the face.
I need more old people friends.

I used to have this same problem. I have to be at work earlyish in the morning and my job is extremely demanding. I have a few friends who are not in that situation, either they are unemployed or spend their time at work sleeping in empty offices or playing video games at their desk. They go out every night of the week, drink a lot and stay out late. They used to give me shit even though I have never been one to party during the week, even when I was at an age where some people do that. And for a long time I wasn't one for doing it on the weekends either. But eventually it just dropped off, it was annoying as shit while it lasted, though.
Anyway, their shit-giving is a reflection of their own insecurity about their behavior at this age and a desperation to hang on to something that has passed. Otherwise why do they give a crap what you're doing with your time.

I'm sometimes like that when it comes to Friday night. Unless it's over by 10pm I lean towards not being involved. I'm freakin tired at the end of the week. :o Saturday night though I'm good to go.

Thanks. That makes me feel better and it makes sense actually, considering what I know about these particular folks.
Now if I can actually get them stop berating me for not joining them that would be awesome. Next time it happens, they are going to get an earful. And they probably won't invite me out because they won't like me anymore anyway. :p

old people are boring.
Agreed if the meaning is state of mind. My dad is far from boring and very influential to a lot of my friends. He dresses like a old coot yet thinks like a college kid. He's a retired Seattle fire fighter who relaxes listening to the Ramones.
I go out about twice a month and stay up late, I'm usually the last one home because I'm sober and my degenerate friends need a ride home.
It's really hard to find that perfect balance when you find yourself between life stages. My wife was just getting into bars and having a drink now and then and suddenly it seems we can't just stay up like we used to.

what does "earlyish" mean when it comes to start time for work?
i usually just push for an earlier start time. that way i can still get some hours in without it being too late to bed.

8am.
Also, I think I spelled desperation wrong. Desparation? Desperation? Both of them look wrong to me right now!

Yeah I have to be in to work by 8am sharp. Which means with travel time I have to get up by 6am the latest.

i get up at 6 to be at work at 7. and my commute takes 40 minutes
what time do your friends usually meet up? i presume that if a long night of drinking is the in the plans, there is no reason they can't bump it ahead an hour or two to accommodate. it's not like they have homework to do or anything...
