Hence the ";)". If there was a tongue-in-cheek smiley I'm sure he would of used that.

He also came up with the backwards beat.

this has actually been a matter of debate. according to Adrock in the run dmc biography, it was Yauch who implemented the backwards beat. he said something like "everyone watched in awe as MCA flipped the tape over and saved the song". others say Rubin is to thank for that idea as well.

HI I am new. Didn't see where to post for new members so figured I'd jump right in. I am Jolene but you can call me Jo! I am a 32 year old female fan-girl so beware!! JK. Anyway if you read below I put what Adam has said about how they ended up doing this song.

When RUN-DMC were recording their King of Rock album we had the good fortune of being around because we shared the same manager. They were amazing. I remember being in the studio while they were recording vocals for one of their songs, and being dumbfounded by how incredible they were. Anyway, when they finished the record and sequenced it they decided to leave off one of our favorite songs. It was called "Slow and Low." I remember rifling through Russell Simmons' desk one day when he was out and finding a cassette of it, and then secredtly copying it so that I could have it to listen to.

Later as we were working on Licensed to Ill, we asked them if we could do a cover of it. We made new music but kept most of their lyrics. In fact the only lines we changed were "D sees real well 'cause he has four eyes" to "White Castle fries only come in one size," And "RUN-DMC not Cheech and Chong" to "Beastie Boys not Cheech and Chong." I wish I still had that tape of their version.

Edit: Well somebody needs to send the you-tube link to Adam!

I've had the Run DMC version for years. I sent it to MCA years ago..

I have Run DMC performing "Paul Revere" (technically). They talked about the Beastie Boys when they were guest VJs on MTV back in 1985 or 1986 and they did the first 4 bars.. I put it on YouTube years ago but they took it down.. I might still have it on VHS. If I find it, I'll post it.
